The Gems are a Swedish Hard Rock trio formed in 2023, which features former members of Thundermother. In less than three years of existing as a band, The Gems have managed to shape modern rock like few other bands. "Year Of The Snake" is the follow up album to the debut "Phoenix".Their very first single, "Like A Phoenix", instantly hit no.2 on the German Rock Radio Airplay Charts and they impressed both fans and critics. With one album under their belt, and numerous electrifying live shows, The Gems quickly established this is the future of rock!

I think in previous reviews I have said that I love a good Female rock singer or group and when my editor-in chief sent this to my inbox with and I quote "Chris this is one for you!" He knows my taste only too well! After the harmonic intro "Walls" the title "Year Of The Snake" track kicks in with some strong awesome riffs, the vocals are strong, confident and so good, the chorus is punchy, the guitar solo is blazing! What a strong start to the debut follow up."Gravity" which features Tommy Johansson is a catchy punchy European Melodic Rock number with that feel good vibe, which you can't help but sing a long too by the end of the first chorus. This album has a touch of everything strong tracks like "Diamond In The Rough" with a slower strong tempo and riffs,"Live And Let Go" is another solid punchy rocker which bounces along with a tight rhythm section & solid vocals and guitar."Clout Chaser" is a sexy, sassy rock number with lots of attitude in both the vocals and music.

"Hot Bait" gives me shades of Van Halen girl power style where The Gems flex their muscles to deliver another killer track. With a slower pace,a more emotional side to The Gems, track  "Forgive & Forget" which is the power ballad of the album,Guernica Mancini lets go with a strong, soaring controlled vocal, and man the guitar solo from Mona Lindgren is blazing hot, definite Heart and Vixen vibes for me on this one.The quality of the material on this album continues of a high pedigree "Math Aint Mathing" has that classic 70's/early 80's vibe,a tint of blues rock in places, again the trio deliver on all fronts, solid drum work from Emlee Johansson is well up in the mix,ver prominent giving the track depth."Firebird" sees the guitar blazing, with some galloping and crunchy chugging riffs, the unison harmonies set the chorus alight, another scorching rocker. "Buckle Up" I would say has a modern twist,it's a solid kick ass rocker with more girl power attitude which these three ladies do best. The album ending track "Happy Water" ends this album as strongly as it did when it started, its loud,it unapologetic kick ass rock music with style.

"Year Of The Snake" just keeps that hype surrounding The Gems going and I can see why. With all the new music coming out,I missed the debut album, but I'm so glad I got to review this album. This trio are a force to be reckoned with. All 14 tracks are delivered with superb vocals, the rhythm is tight and the guitar work is on fire. The tracks also timing wise are the ideal length to have maximum impact. There is a few great female artists/bands in the rock genre but with "Year Of The Snake",The Gems just blew some of them out of the water. If like me you like female Hard Rock then do not miss this record its superb!!!
