Existence
No Terror In The Bang

From Bandcamp, "NO TERROR IN THE BANG" forges a cinematic progressive metal marked by tension, blending fragility and fury in a striking sonic chiaroscuro. Led by Sofia's shape-shifting vocals, the band delivers an emotionally charged contrast of clean melodies and visceral screams. Their new EP "Existence" delves into humanity's downfall across cosmic, physical, social, environmental, and mortal themes. Each track reveals a distinct layer of collapse, questioning destiny, purpose, and our self-destructive nature. With its dark atmospheres and narrative depth, "Existence" extends the band's immersive and powerful musical identity." The album has five songs, and "Moon" is first. The opening tones are horridly aggressive with harsh vocals, but it quickly gives way to clean ones. From there, the two opposing styles are locked in battle with one another.
"Heroine" begins the other direction, with clean guitars and gentle vocals, but the horrid tones that follow speak of someone who is deeply tormented. The chorus is catchy, and the riffs are firm and aggressive. "Goat" goes straight for your throat, and the beast bears his fangs and claws. Again, the tortured sound drops as the vocals are expressed cleanly and softly. Her voice is indeed shape shifting, and the transitions are jarring, yanking you clean out of your seat. "Human Race Kills" is a darker offering, as the title suggests. There is another aggressive sound, but not quite as horrid as previous songs. At least, not at first. The transition to heavier qualities bring gutturals and screams with them, and so far, the best part of the album is Sofia's versatile vocals.
"Chasm" is the final song, and once again, it has a gentle opening. Her vocals almost seem to be contemplative. What is she mulling over? Anger seems to come from nowhere, and this duality is a constant on the album. Overall, this is an album that's a study in extremes. On one end, it's smooth, melodic, and perhaps even introspective at times. On the other end however, it's aggressive, brutal, even punishing, I feel like five songs was enough to capture the band's essence, primarily because each of them had a similar sound and a similar length. One thing I would have liked would be a bit more diversity, but I am looking forward to what they might do next.
