Decomposition
Pythonic

PYTHONIC is a Canadian Death-Groove Metal/Metalcore band hailing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Having started making noise together in 2015 it took them until 2020 until they released their first single ("Negative Thoughts") while their first EP saw the light of day in 2024 ("EP1"). On 19 December 2025 they gave us their sophomore EP "Decomposition", and it gives us just over 18 minutes of their brand of Death-Groove Metal/Metalcore to dissect and review. From the EPK: Over the years, the band has seen many lineup changes, but two core members have remained constant. Lead guitarist Ryan Hunter, the resident guitar prodigy, shreds some of the grooviest riffs and most blistering solos. Rhythm guitarist Vincent Kohut brings a machine-like precision, combining thick low-end riffing with razor sharp tremolo picking.
I have to admit that when I saw the cover and the ugly logo of the band, I decided that I wouldn't like this at all. Don't ask me why, as I haven't got a clue, but that is exactly what happened. That is, until I started listening to "Decomposition". My negativity was really short-lived, and made place for admiration. Because that is what PYTHONIC does command; respect. The way they have approached the music is impressive. I hear Metalcore, I get Hardcore, I receive Groove Metal and I hear Heavy Metal. Sometimes one of the four, at other times two or more of the four ingredients on offer. And what is even more impressive; they work well together. PYTHONIC is able to diversify the intensity in conjunction with the musical style they are applying at that moment in time.
As for the intensity level on "Decomposition", it is rathe high. Of course the kind of music that PYTHONIC plays has a big role in this, but don't underestimate the effect that the vocals have. And that is where Morgan Warriner comes in. He can scream high, just below the edge Black Metal regions, but he also has a really low grunt/growl in his vocabulary, which sounds just as impressive. What he is able to do is complete the songs in his own, unique way. It works, as it should because the songs are just that good. Like I said, I admire what I hear on "Decomposition". They might not become the next big thing, but I think that if enough people have the opportunity as well as the guts to actually listen to PYHTONIC they will be able to reach a lot more people than expected.
