Steve Emm has been passionate about music since early childhood. At the age of 14, he began playing drums and studying music, and by 16 he had already formed his first band, taking on the dual role of drummer and main songwriter. He later joined the hair/glam metal band Tabby Cats, performing extensively on the Italian underground live circuit and sharing the stage with renowned acts such as Crashdïet, Nasty Idols, Crazy Lixx, Gemini Five, Hungry Hearts and Peppermint Creeps. After the Tabby Cats chapter came to an end, Steve became part of the hard-rock power trio Three Times Better, before founding the punk rock band Visione Inversa, with whom he released three albums, remaining active until 2022.Since 2021, Steve Emm has been fully dedicated to his solo studio project, in which he handles every aspect of the creative process, from recording to production. Guns, Sunstorm and Mecca.
So back when I was younger the sound of a Sax in any rock song was a no no for me,the more guitars the better, but now at 50 years old my musical palette has shifted. The opening track "Big Little Secret", the sax sounds awesome in this track, wrapped around the keys, the melodies, the guitars, the deep bassline, this is such a sophisticated, nostalgic cut of AOR greatness. The nostalgic AOR sound flows with such quality through this album "What Am I Supposed to do" has great rhythm, melodies which flow with a classy vocal delivery, with Steve Emm having this great tone to his voice."Bad Lovers Make You A Fighter" is the latest single, and what a track it is,the key led track is one of those late night listening tracks, subtle, moody with a Toto influenced feel delivering on all fronts, with an excellent simple video with no AI,gimmicks or visuals, nostalgic worth a watch."Loveline" is a more uptempo number with some bright keyboards with a big chorus,"Shadows On The Boulevard" another single is a more ballad style track delivered with soul, emotion, control with more subtle saxophone passages."Man On The Run" another single is a more pacey tempo track, which has catchy melodies.hooks and a great chorus."You Make My Life A Living Hell" is a more drum/guitar driven track, with this bass grove the backbone of the track which hits harder than previous tracks, great guitar touches& tones,a very infection earworm track which gives me Survivor vibes, another great AOR track."Rock Solid" sees Steve dipping his toes into a more pop/rock oriented track, which i can imagine been on a big 80's blockbuster movie soundtrack, with more big sax!
"Endgame" appropriately named as its the last track on the album starts with a wave of atmospheric keys, then the drums and bass kick in, the verses and bridge build the track to another big chorus, towards the end of the track the guitar solo explodes through my speakers to hammer the track home with great energy and intensity. Steve Emm continues to deliver great nostalgic, anthemic AOR ."Private Affairs" plainly and simply is fantastic from beginning to end.Steve is such a talent musically & vocally his voice is superb,it has this distinctive tone which is unmistakable. The production is excellent, punchy and polished, which also makes this album so good in all aspects of its creation. "Private Affairs" is out via Steelheart Records on 30th January.
