Atoned in Metamorphosis

Predatory Void

Although it’s just an EP, the band gave me a full taste of flavor, and I am intrigued. Indeed, they do blend a lot of genres together into a soup that has seasoning. But, if you try to separate out the parts, you will ruin the recipe. You just need to sit back and let it blend together, despite how uncomfortable it might make you feel.

From their record label's website, "Ghent (Belgium) has long been a breeding ground for groundbreaking heavy music. From this fertile scene came PREDATORY VOID, formed in 2021 by Lennart Bossu. What began as his pandemic writing outlet quickly grew into a full band with Lina R. on vocals, Thijs De Cloedt on guitar, Vincent Verstrepen on drums, and most recently Kris Auman on bass and backing vocals. Fusing influences from shoegaze, doom, hardcore, post, black and death metal, the band carved out a distinct identity. On February 6th, 2026, they return with a new EP on Pelagic Records — a sharper, more condensed take on their sound, enriched by Auman's low-end power and vocal depth.

The EP has four songs, and "Make Me Whole" is first. The opening sound is a bit monotone and repetitive (with the lyrics), probably meant to paint a picture of desolation. A weighted, crunchy distorted riff joins in and I suddenly feel like I am caught in a deluge of rain and storm. It ends however abruptly, as if you were just yanked out of the scene. "New Moon" enters with rage, and it's the first video released ahead of the album. The fast-moving tones are both aggressive and tense, although the vocals are relatively smooth. By contrast, the harsh vocals are beyond intense, and they paint a picture of a tortured soul. She fluctuates from there, between moments of anger and despair.

"Peeling Cycle" is more of a dark and shadowy sound. The clean vocals clash with the music at times, creating a sense of dissonance and even disorientation that is hard to shake. Harsh vocals seem to come out of nowhere, and once again, the band jars you with a firm push. "Contemplation in Time" is the final cut, and it has an aggressive and hasty sound, almost as if something is chasing you in the dark that you can't lose. Lina is almost crying at times, in what seems like a good deal of pain. Dissonance still abounds, and it disrupts your circadian rhythm cycle to the point that you aren't even sure where you are or what time it is.

Although it's just an EP, the band gave me a full taste of flavor, and I am intrigued. Indeed, they do blend a lot of genres together into a soup that has seasoning. But, if you try to separate out the parts, you will ruin the recipe. You just need to sit back and let it blend together, despite how uncomfortable it might make you feel.
