I was very excited before listening to this CD of this band. Manning the line-up are plainly talented musicians with big experience. SILVER HORSES consists of: Tony Martin (ex-BLACK SABBATH, ex-CLASSIC WHITESNAKE), Gianluca Galli (MANTRA, TIME MACHINE), Andrea Castelli (SHABBY TRICK, CAPPANERA, MANTRA) and Matteo "Bona" Bonini (MGRB). This international band - Italian / British was born after a meeting in 2011 between guitarist Gianluca Galli and singer Tony Martin. Their first self-titled album saw the light of day in October 2012.
In "Rub It On Me" there is a true vibe of Bluesy Hard Rock, a beautiful sound of harmonica adds flavour to this song. It was also used in the title track as well. Bass, drums and bluesy riffs are in full power and of course the great melodic voice of Tony Martin, like a comeback to the old days. Faster tempo, fury and energetic guitar riffs rally up on "Run" that will move you dear listener back to the 70s years, accelerating your heartbeat. The melodic pattern of the rhythms channeled in the vein of WHITESNAKE and DEEP PURPLE. The intro of "Diamond Sky" includes acoustic guitar that remind me some of the vintage stuff out of LED ZEPPELIN. The musicians play in such a perfect form. Listen to the melodies of this song, it is musically obsolete. The addition of the violin also amazed me."Life and Soul" rocks almost the same with emotive Hard Rock with a perfect collaboration of the rhythm section with the guitars.
"You're Breaking My Heart (Don't Do It)" is one of my favorites with a depth patterned sound and a melodic classic hard rock approach that really kicked in deep in the soul & heart, once again a journey back in time. Surprisingly, the main guitar riff is very similar to "Still Of The Night" by WHITESNAKE. In general, it is an energetic song with touch of modern sound. However, nothing is worthy than "Secret Service". Beginning as a reminiscent to the old WHITESNAKE with a high flying voice of Martin and a fantastic rhythmical section with deep bass and an amazing guitar solo. It is a very good track following the old vintage stuff of the 70s in the vein of WHITESNAKE, BLACK SABBATH and AEROSMITH.
As always fierce and determined Martin's voice soars all through "Suddenly Lost".This is beautiful ballad. It sounds rather fresh though following the classic oriented ballads of KANSAS, NAZARETH, FOREIGNER or LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE.I nearly felt Goosebumps due to the wonderful piano and pleasant rhythm section led by masterful vocals and well tuned guitar. On the song "You" there is fine singing line and a beautiful chorus and on "Me" loom several oriental influences ignited by Galli's playing, rather similar to the material of Robert Plant's solo career. Blues made with a flourish and elements of Funk reminding me some tracks of CHICKENFOOT.
SILVER HORSES is just awesome. This album is addictive. Experience and talent brought over to the maximum. Musicians determine their music as kind of LED ZEPELLIN meet early WHITESNAKE, a pure enough sensation. They collaborate classic 70s Hard Rock with Blues mixed with modern pathways. Every song is different in a way, here you can't find any scheme. I felt the passion and the heart for the creation of this masterpiece. On its own it shares plenty of emotions, everything has its own soul. It's fantastic to comeback to beautiful world of 70s Rock. I recommend this album with all my heart to every fan of the genre that likes the flavor of old stuff.
