Incantation - Vanquish In Vengeance album cover

This is what Death Metal is all about and nobody, and I mean nobody, would never ever be able to change that. The real Death Metal style, which rooted itself back in the mid to late 80s in both the US and North Western Europe, was about the true essence of Death, the sensation of dying and how deeply a human being feels that consciousness and all the commotion that comes with it. Furthermore, Death Metal is about blasphemy, sacrilege, and anti religious themes. Though the latter has been attributed to Black Metal in the early 90s, especially the Norwegian frost, Death Metal had the satisfaction on indulging those beliefs a bit longer than that. Over the years, since I was sixteen or so, I had the chance to take on some of the greatest blasphemous bands of the genre that have keeping an awareness of what religious corruption can do to the world. It began with MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, POSSESSED, SINISTER, BOLT THROWER, IMMOLATION and then it reached back to the US with the veteran INCANTATION. It has been six years after their last album, "Primordial Domination", and finally they are back with "Vanquish In Vengeance", also via Listenable Records. To my delight, I was thankful to find out that they haven't lost their longstanding touch with attributing a strong, vicious, demonic and malevolent Death Metal, just as the old school prescribed.

In general, with their return with this new album, INCANTATION came to teach the other veteran bands I mentioned how to produce a real Death Metal with irreligious and profane intentions. Additionally, with their newly forged concept, this album was brought forth to deliver a message in the name of the slain, those countless numbers of bone and flesh humans that died under the religious banner while their cloth commanders left behind enjoying the riches of an opium infested mob of followers without them truly knowing that it wasn't about the cloth, it has always been the pursuit for wealth and power. History is full of examples, but who said that everyone took their time to actually read between the lines and notice the blood. I know that I have been talking of way too much conceptual ideas, but I also shared my ideas along with INCANTATION's because I am not one of those ignorant folks, I know what they are talking about.

As far as their musical spread, it was an outstanding hellish frontage of true hate, and accordingly suitable old school type production, with infesting riffing, just as heard in the older days of the genre, like a battle between speed demon trills of damnation and killing slow tempo tainted chunks of meat. Shrugging and gorging at the vocals in the gutter sounding voice of the band's founder, John McEntee, which also showed his prowess on the sonic guitar soloing, painfully expressed with rapid shrieks, a bit shredded and to the point, no classy stuff to come over to cuddle. The rhythm section sounded outstanding, as if its vigor never died all these years. Kyle Severen, also one of the band's veterans, has been coming and going from the band but happily he came back on the saddle in 2009 and there he is blasting like an expert Death Metal drummer. INCANTATION surely recruited two perfect guys for the roles of bass and second guitar.

Through the sounds and voices of "Vanquish In Vengeance"I once again came to the same conclusion of why I like INCANTATION. It's because that they show how much they admire what they have been doing all these years. Of course that it is important to add more elements to your music to keep the listeners captivated, but in their case it won't work and probably if they did they would have ended up like their peers MORBID ANGEL with horrid releases loosing the entire context of their music. This album's material has its speedy and rushing flow of energies filled enticing lead cries alongside anguished slow tempo sleeping giants ready to shatter the world to bits. It's all about that hidden anger and patience not make a mistake with that anger. Since I had a hard time pinpointing my favourite tracks, I thought about just letting you feel it yourselves. But since I am a nice guy, there you have it. Enjoy "Ascend into The Eternal", "Profound Loathing", "Vanquish in Vengeance" and "From Hollow Sands" but don't stop here please, take this entire album and embrace it, feel the pain of the dead.
