Warren Of Necrosis

Black Rabbit

BLACK RABBIT has come out stronger this time. When I was listening to “Chronolysis”, it felt that the band just let go, and damned be the consequences. It made for some uneven levels on that wile, while on “Warren Of Necrosis” it is a lot more in sync with each other.

I reviewed the last EP "Chronolysis" by BLACK RABBIT in April of this year and rated it with a nine out of ten. That was because I felt that the Death/Thrash Metal they play has enough elements and variety to keep the listener satisfied throughout the whole EP. Now it's almost December 2025, and I have another BLACK RABBIT EP blasting its noise out of my speakers. It is called "Warren Of Necrosis" and it brings us over 18 minutes of intense Metal. What this EP does is give me another chance in telling you how good this is and why I feel it is so. As far as I know nothing has changed in the circumstances surrounding the band, so no new members to greet. But also still no record company that has had the guts to book this Dutch quartet. And whereas the former issue mentioned is always great for band, the latter is utterly disappointing, as I feel that the quality of music really does warrant such a contract.

As for the music itself, that hasn't really changed that much. It is still very diverse, with a lot of different rhythms and tempos passing you by whilst listening. But before you think that "Warren Of Necrosis" is just a continuation of what BLACK RABBIT were doing on "Chronolysis", that isn't exactly true. Yes, of course they play the same genre of music, and there are a lot of similarities. That is what is to be expected when the same players stay together. The difference is more subtle. I get the feeling that the band has thought longer and harder about how the songs should be constructed, worked on the arrangements into more detail this time. And that has resulted in the songs being stronger, but also a little more subdued. The explosions of noise are still there, but a bit more controlled, or if you will, level-headed.

And I have to admit that it has worked. I feel that BLACK RABBIT has come out stronger this time. When I was listening to "Chronolysis", it felt that the band just let go, and damned be the consequences. It made for some uneven levels on that wile, while on "Warren Of Necrosis" it is a lot more in sync with each other. And let's be frank; some will prefer the lack of boundaries on "Chronolysis", while others (like me) prefer the way that "Warren Of Necrosis" has come out of the mix. That is always a debate, but one that is very personal and only to be resolved by listening to the two EP's back to back. Now there's a thought!
