Execration
Bloodtruth

Hailing from the same areas as greats such as Fleshgod Apocalypse and Hour of Penance, Bloodtruth is the latest from Italy's technical death metal scene. Forming in 2009, and with members from countless metal projects, it's clear to me that Bloodtruth doesn't fool around. The band plays around with themes of philosophy and anti-religion, and accompany said topics with ultra-fast and technical playing. While I do love me some tech death, the genre can come off as a bit uninspired, with bands using a song to prove just how fast they can drum and how many guitar solos they can play. However, I always go in positive, and their album "Execration," released on Selfmadegod Records, is now responsible for keeping the positivity up!
The opener to the project is the blistering "Playgue Their Souls." A pounding awakening to set the tone for the album. The vocals provided by Luis Maggio sound like they take some inspiration from modern deathcore, and the riffs have great feel to them. "Retribution and Flames" follows, and the technicality has variation. It's not the same stale, fast riff for the track's duration. The drumming is of typical speed, that of which being crazy fast. I can really get behind this. The time signatures are challenging, and even quite rewarding to listen to. Up next is "Freedom Crucified," and it's got some groove. Every composition so far is dense, and nothing lets up from the beginning seconds to the last blast-beat. There's so much going on and I wouldn't have it any other way. "A Savage Evangelization" carries the momentum, of course. Same with "God Transcendental Killer." Both tracks are of regular brutality, gladly welcomed by my ears. My feet are tapping, my air drums are flying, and the head is banging.
"Obsidian and Steel" starts the "second" part of the nine-track project with a vocal/drumming sound that summoned Cryptopsy into my mind. I can also start to make comparisons to international greats such as Nile and Broken Torso. "Kill the Offspring of Eve," "The Infinity," and "Execration" finish of the album, and frankly, there's not much more to say that I haven't said already about the material in "Execration," all songs are of immense brutality, and are technical as the day is long.
Bloodtruth's "Execration" is one hell of a brutal technical death metal album. Yes, I accidentally listened to the same song twice and didn't notice. Yes, at some times I sat still and admired how crazy some instruments behaved. Yes, this was a great listen. Yes, I want more.
