The Grief Sower
Behind Starvation

"BEHIND STARVATION" recently released their ep "The Grief Sower", just a short album of only 5 songs. There was not much to be found on this band, accept they hail all the way from Italy; which I must confess that causes some jealousy in and of itself because I would love to go there one day. Beyond that, let's dig right in to this album!
Firstly, we have "Negations Shape". I immediately love the sound, but theres a riff I can't quite place. It almost makes me think of maybe early Marilyn Manson? I'm not entirely sure. The length of that intro, though, immediately told me everything I needed to know and what I was in for, and I was not wrong. As soon as the vocals hit, they hit hard. The screams, the growls, the absolute nastiness of it told me I would not want to be in the pit! Or would I? One song and I was hooked and ready to dive straight into "Grief Sower". Again, "BEHIND STARVATION" got me hook, lined, and sinkered. The chaos and that absolute, diabolical, insane, guitar had me melting and ready for more. The lyrics were spot on amazing, though it did at times feel like a more clean vocal was about to come through. It was more of a sike out moment when the screams and growls continued. "Despite Existence", again started off with the maybe a bit too long guitar before diving face first into the depths of hell. I love that so far the songs are entirely them but still have their own sound that has you yearning for the next. Those growls and that guitar are absolutely sick!
"Collapsing Monuments", I almost immediately noticed that it hit the dreaded 5 minute mark. For some people it may be awesome, but for myself, not so much. There is nothing more boring to me than a guitar riff that seems to never end. I love my chaos and when we focus on one thing for too long my mind just says nope and shuts it off. Unfortunately, this song was one of those songs. I personally could not get into it. I have friends who I know would absolutely love it and I know there are tons out there who love it as well, so no big deal, it's only one song. Last up we have "In the Shadows (The Rasmus Cover)". This song left me absolutely breathless. The drums, the screams, the guitars, had me speechless with my mouth hanging open. The only thing I could really say is I would love to hear more of the drums. Every single song had me knowing immediately, the pits would be absolutely insane, and I would love every second of it.
I could see "BEHIND STARVATION" at a sick metal festival screaming to open those pits up. I can close my eyes and imagine the sea of crowd surfers coming one after another. Their energy is absolutely insane! This was an amazing EP and I can not wait to hear more of their music. (Not that I'm heading to find any and every song they have ever made or anything.)
