Semen Of The Sun - The Walk album cover

SEMEN OF THE SUN is a Greek Rock band that I came to know since 2006. They were at their very primitive steps at that time having released two demos but with a hellish amount of awesome songs like "Absence" and "All fruits once rot". Fast forward in 2012 and we find them releasing their sophomore album "The Walk". And while this is a 2012 release the material exists and is recorded since 2010 two years after the release of their first album "Radio Adult".

"The Walk" is an 8 tracks album this record is and its concept is what one might see while walking in Athens, depending on the mood and the situations. The cover represents exactly that with a selection of photos from various places in Athens. Musically we got rock songs with a lot of melody and feeling. The band takes influences from various bands of alternative and grunge scene but also local like TRIPES  but manages successfully to unify them and present something that is their own. "Hard To Admit" or "The Walk" start with a great riff, "Bullfight On Snow" has that awesome feeling of recent OASIS.. "Dark Days" is probably the darker and gloomiest song of the record. "Space Donkey", "Good Times", "Poison from Above" and "Roses" are great Rock songs with alternative and grunge elements.

The production of the record is excellent and has a nice vintage feeling (as in the first record) that is missing nowadays from Rock albums. The guitars and bass have proper levels while the drums could be a bit higher. Marios' voice seems way better than in the first album too. But in general the band's performance is professional and everything is executed precisely and with great passion. Things that I didn't like that much is that the record is very short, approximately 30 minutes (because yes I want more) and that the heavier direction of the first record is totally gone. I am fine with the songs and the direction of the band but a little headbanging here and there wouldn't hurt anyone (other than the neck bones).

To sum up I believe that SEMEN OF THE SUN is one of the honest bands that you can find out there. If there is something that I really like in them is that they have really catchy and clever melodies and that they have found their own way to present them musically using lots of experimentations, a quality that you do not usually find in bands nowadays. I also had a discussion with their singer / guitarist Marios and you can read more interesting things about this band in our interviews section and you can also check "The Walk" in Bandcamp in full streaming. Until the next album have a walk or two...
