The new self titled EP by thrash metal band from Mumbai India, Carnage Inc., comes out swinging with a unique yet familiar thrash metal sound. The album definitely sounds like 80s thrash metal. The lead vocalist, Varun Panchai, definitely has a voice reminiscent of Dave Mustaine from the classic band Megadeth, and not in a bad way. The album also features a lot of influences and inspirations from Indian music, which I thought was a welcome surprise. The opening track, "Summoning" is a very epic song featuring beautiful violin notes combined with clashing horns. It's entirely instrumental, and provides a good key to what the rest of the EP holds.

This opening track leads into a heavy hitting head banger entitled "Epik." the track opens you are hit with a barrage of guitar riffs from Mayuresh Mumbarker on lead guitar. The vocals punch you in the face with their ferocity and take you back into a time when thrash metal ruled the world. Near the conclusion of the song, a guitar solo rips and it is glorious. The second track, "Shadowstrike" is just as fast and furious as the previous song. The vocals are crazy and fast. This time, the drumming by Olav D'Souza is more on display here, layered beautifully with the sound of the lead guitar and the crisp bass tones that accompany this track. What makes this track unique, is that it there's a lead into a breakdown. When Varun says, "You won't down without a fight" the music becomes slightly slower, and the drums kick it up a notch. This is definitely a song you could mosh too. That breakdown brings with it another epic guitar solo, which, thus far, this band has done a great job of.

The forth track of this EP, Giganaut, starts off a little slower than the aforementioned other tracks. It doesn't start off with fast paced vocals either, as the other songs have. A slower guitar section opens this track giving way to the more quick paced thrash metal that we all love from a band like this. The rhythm of this track flows effortlessly as well; you can feel the energy emanating off each of the performances on this song. A live setting for this band would make you feel the energy they exude even more.

The final track on this EP, Deathmark, is probably my favorite song on the album. The beat and the rhythm of the drums and lead guitar - layered with the bass - create a nice dissonance in the song. The lyrical content of this track is also very much thrash metal; a very rebellious attitude that the band has always exhibited, but is even more presented in this song.I love the guitar riffs leading up to the guitar solo. It's a fake out to me because it makes it seem like they are leading toward a breakdown, which they do brilliantly, but it was a guitar solo which was even better. I found myself banging my head crazily to this song in particular.

Overall, this album is incredible. Carnage Inc., is an incredibly fun band and has a ton of energy while they are performing the record. Honestly, the band would be really good live. The energy is there, and I can imagine a crowd of bodies clashing against each other and being hoisted up above the crowd, singing the lyrics to their songs and cheering at the top of their lungs.
