Bloodbound - In The Name Of Metal album cover

Metal! It's something that BLOODBOUND obviously love. You just have to look at the artwork, lyrics, and song titles of their fifth full length album, "In The Name Of Metal". And whilst there may be a couple bands around that emphasize their love for their genre, but BLOODBOUND manage to do it without turning it into a gimmick.

As well as actually liking the music, I had a lot of fun listening to this album, and I think the band must have had a lot of fun making it. Their lyrics do stray into darker territory on a few of the songs, something which they have done before, but they're still awesome. Now, you'd think a band from Sweden with a name like BLOODBOUND would be inclined to produce some Death Metal? Well, there's nothing Death about "In The Name Of Metal" - they are very Melodic, and definitely leaning more towards Power Metal, although I think they've got that edge that a lot of Swedish bands have, and it works really well. They've had a few lineup changes since their birth in 2004, but since they've found that stability of 6 permanent band members they're sounding better than ever.

And these permanent band members are brilliant musicians. Throughout the album you can hear all their individual influences from band such as IRON MAIDEN and AC/DC. They bring in all these influences onto their music, and blend them all together creating a sound that reminds you of 80's Metal, but it definitely has a modern feel to it, especially in the production values. Johansson's vocals are pure power, and are the central focus point on many of the songs. The guitar work from the Olsson brothers is magnificent, along with Broman's bass playing, providing the main body of the music, with some awesome solos. The drumming from Akerlind and the keyboards from Bergh just add that extra something that set them apart from everyone else.

BLOODBOUND don't pull any punches, and they don't try to be something they're not or make their music unnecessarily fancy or twiddly. They're doing this because they've got a passion for Metal, and sometimes, that's all you need to produce an awesome album.
