Lord Of Mushrooms - Perspectives album cover

LORD OF MUSHROOM is an multinational (Brazil, France and Italy) Progressive Metal band formed back in 1999 by Laurent James and Julien Negro. After several few line up and name changes, they finally chose the moniker LORD OF MUSHROOMS.

The self-titled debut was followed by a more focused and impressive work, "Seven Deadly Songs", a concept album based on the seven deadly sins. Newly signed with Lion Music, it received even greater reviews and allowed the band to perform live outside Europe.

I think that the voice of the vocalist Gus Monsanto made him not such a unique stereotype in this genre and other genres of Metal as well. Therefore, when you start listening to this album right from the beginning, you have same feeling that you heard this pattern many times before. I think that LORD OF MUSHROOMS is highly influenced by DREAM THEATER, within the whole album I found similarities between James LaBrie - (lead vocals of DREAM THEATER) and it seems that Gus Monsanto tried to stimulate LaBrie's style of singing with that chanting and vibrato techniques of his sound and other stuff.

Personally I think "Perspectives" is not a unique Progressive Metal album there is a lot of technically stereotypes and routines but this album has some powerful points like its conceptual content. Within the LORD OF MUSHROOM band there are two Frenchman one Brazilian and two Italians, I think that their origin is their point of power that they could arranged properly and find what they really want to formulate. With "Perspectives" they tried to introduce the entire selection of riffing right from the top, most of the rhythms are nice and soothing and feels kind of comfortable with verses and lyrics that felt just right. They did it thing quite well in all of songs except "The Missing Link" and "Light And Thunder".

Despite the narrative perception, LORD OF MUSHROOM focuses on giving each song an individual pattern. According to "Perspectives" it's a conceptual album followed the self-titled album of 2002 and "Seven Deadly Sins" three years later. But this is important to know that each song of "Perspectives" independently follows its own subjects and events, its own rhythm and music, for example the second track "Warmth In The Wilderness" that begins with a nice drum puddle and an almost heavy riff with a slow rhythm feeling a little bit aggressive on it but the 5th song "The Missing Link" that is a slow melodic soothing track and feels a little bit relaxing or the last track "Falling" that follows the same pattern so each song is an individual for itself.
