Witness The Power
Denial Of Life

Another EP that has come my way. I somehow have a knack when I am looking at what I would like to review to find the ones that aren't full albums at all. But hey, it does allow me to discover and enjoy new bands, like DENIAL OF LIFE. They originate from Tacoma, Washington (state), USA and have been active under that name since 2019. After two demos and a studio album ("No Reason" from 2022) they are now back with just over 22 minutes of their brand of High Voltage Heavy Metal. It appears that they are classed as a Thrash metal/Crossover band on the Metal Archives, but if that was the case they have definitely altered their approach to the music. you can still hear the Thrash Metal undertones from time to time, but it sems that DENIAL OF LIFE have toned down their speed as well as their extreme speed, whilst maintaining their energy and enthusiasm.
As I stated, this is the first I have ever heard of DENIAL OF LIFE, and not to put a fine point on it, but this "Witness The Power" EP is one that will have your ears and brain working from start to finish. The way singer Brenna Gowin starts to try and expel her intestines from her innards when she starts shouting is nothing less than impressive. And whilst she does tone it down in the other songs, she can only be described as one hell of a formidable and powerful front lady. As for the music, it is high strung Heavy Metal. The intensity and the density that radiates from my speakers is about to blow them up. What is even more important, the band knows how to write songs, but also has adopted the right way to play and record them for us to enjoy. As for their past, that is most noticeable on the closing song "Not The One". But I have to say that the ghost of SLAYER during their "Hell Awaits" era mixed with "Kill 'Em All" era METALLICA riffing does show its beautiful head on God's Favorite (Slave To The Blade).
The rest of the songs all have their own atmosphere whilst simultaneously being obviously coherent. It makes listening to "Witness The Power" a real pleasure. All put together I have to conclude that I am pleasantly surprised by what DENIAL OF LIFE is offering this EP. And even if you can't find any new insights into the Heavy Metal world as you know it, you will have to concede that DENIAL OF LIFE are a real powerhouse of a band on "Witness The Power".
