Reckoning

House of Hosts

There is no denying the fact that “Reckoning” is a very powerful and interesting EP. If HOUSE OF HOSTS is capable of writing good songs in this vein in the future that are as good or even better than these ones, they should consider making a full album.

HOUSE OF HOSTS are from Swansea, Wales, UK and play Alternative Rock/Modern Metal music that has emotions written all over it. Before now they have only released two singles, so this "Reckoning" EP with a runtime of 19:14 minutes is the first time people are able to experience any of their musical prowess for a longer time. What comes to mind when I start listening to this EP is the fact that HOUSE OF HOSTS might be Heavy hitting and rather forceful at times, they somehow have the knack to produce a very accessible sound that really complement the very emotional and very much in your face atmosphere of the songs.

Another thing that jumps out for me is the fact that "Reckoning" doesn't sound like a recording done by a rather new or inexperienced bunch of musicians. On the contrary, this screams band effort and cohesion in spades. And that is what makes listening to this HOUSE OF HOSTS EP so interesting. the songs all have a sound structure; the musicians all get the space they need to be heard and the voice of Daniel Foley-Griffiths finishes the product of in the best way possible. I now am hoping that the band is able to transport that feeling and confidence into their live performances, as that does make them very acceptable as a good support act to bigger bands in the same vein. The reason I mention that is because I believe that HOUSE OF HOSTS would really come over even better in a live setting than they already do in a studio one.

There is no denying the fact that "Reckoning" is a very powerful and interesting EP. If HOUSE OF HOSTS is capable of writing good songs in this vein in the future that are as good or even better than these ones, they should not only consider making a full album, they should have the record companies lining up to signing them. The market for this kind of music is there, as bands that dare to show their emotions a s much as HOUSE OF HOSTS do are very rare. Such bands that write and play good music are even rarer, and if they can deliver their message in a good way when playing live, they can be considered to be close to a unicorn. I guess the future will have to tell us what comes next after "Reckoning" for HOUSE OF HOSTS.
