Grave Hex

GRAVE HEX were formed in 2024 and they are from Helsinki, Finland. The Death Metal band release their debut album. "Vermian Death" was recorded and mixed by Matti Vainionpää and mastered by Greg Wilkinson (AUTOPSY; CARDINAL WYRM; DEATHGRAVE) at Earhammer Studio. The album has a length of about 27 minutes, and it was released via Dutch Death Metal specialists Night Terrors Records. No official video has been released yet. The album has a very strong and powerful start with the opening thunderous guitar riffs and crushing basslines, introducing "Steeping Master Worm Flesh". It is a track with mid-tempo verse parts and chorus parts at measured tempo at a stomping rhythm. The vocals are growls and vary between the deep and medium end of the guttural range. The guitar sound of the track is inspired by the classical Swedish chainsaw sound. "Vultural Scourge" continues with the Death Metal onslaught at mid-tempo. While the verse parts have some degree of catchiness in the riffing and the melodies, all the rest is a delivery of chaos and insanity in terms of tempo, melodies, guitar riffing, and drumming. "Den Of Evil" is a grim offering at a measured tempo and a head-banging rhythm. The guitar riffing is direct and aggressive, and the basslines are crunching, while the melodies are spine-chilling, intensified by the deep growling vocals. The break starts frantic at blistering pace until the change towards a sluggish rhythm for a lead guitar solo with blood-freezing melodies until the end of the track.
"Endless Impossible Constructs" starts with a short intro delivered by the guitars, introducing the main melody of the track. It is a track with blood-freezing melodies, devastating guitar riffs, and growls straight from the abyss at a measured tempo and a sluggish rhythm. Key driver of the track are the crushing basslines. At the mid-point, the track switches to mid-tempo and there is a seamless transition to the break leading to a contributing lead guitar solo. "Endless Impossible Constructs" is one of the album highlights. The title track starts with crunching basslines, followed by the main riff of the track, leading into the verse part at a measured tempo. The main guitar riff is very direct, simple, and catchy. There are tempo switches throughout the track, mainly between measured tempo and mid-tempo, while a head-banging rhythm alternates with a sluggish rhythm. "Vermian Death" is probably the most doom-laden song with a chilling melodic framework. "Pungent Pulsating Pool Of Blood" raises the tempo, it is a fast, but not overly fast track. The guitar riffing is simple and direct and accompanied by strong basslines. The growls are slightly higher and vary around the medium end of the guttural range with a few tonal shifts towards higher pitched growls.
The final track of the album is "Halls Beneath The Primal Mere" and it starts with a short guitar part introducing the main melody of the track. It is another doom-laden delivery with blood-freezing melodies at a sluggish rhythm during the first two minutes of the track, then leading into a frantic, blast-beat driven part with devastating guitar riffs. Just when the track seems to settle for mid-tempo, it goes back to the beginnings for a grim ending of the album.GRAVE HEX deliver blood-freezing traditional Death Metal. "Vermian Death" is a doom-laden offering of devastating guitar riffs, grueling basslines, and growls coming straight out from hell. The Death Metal sound is inspired by the traditional Swedish chainsaw guitars but intensified by a crushing bass. The album is well produced.
