Wretched Decrepitude

Caesarean

“Wretched Decrepitude” ranges somewhere between brutal Death Metal and Hardcore. Most of the tracks are very aggressive with simple and direct guitar riffing, plenty of blast-beats, and crushing basslines

CAESAREAN were formed in 2024 and they are from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Death Metal outfit release their debut EP. "Wretched Decrepitude" was mastered by Leon del Muerte (CARTILAGE; IMPALED). The EP has a length of about 20 minutes, and it was released via US Death Metal and Grindcore specialists Horror Pain Gore Death Production. No video has been released yet. The first song of the EP is "Proteinaceous Infectious Particle", and it starts with a short cinematic intro, leading into powerful guitar riffs accompanied by strong basslines at mid-tempo. The vocals are growls, varying between the deep and medium end of the guttural range. While the first half of the song follows clear textures, the second part is frantic at blistering pace, supported by blast-beat and higher pitched harsh vocals and a few Hardcore vibes, which lasts until the end of the track. The title track starts at fast pace with direct and very aggressive guitar riffing. The vocals are two-parted, where the higher pitched harsh vocals alternating with the deep-lying growls. There are plenty of blast-beat attacks and strong basslines throughout the track. The harsh vocals deliver plenty of aggression and the Hardcore vibes to the track.

"Grotesque Transfiguration" continues with the aggressive sound and there is little difference to the preceding track in terms of the riffing, the drumming, and the vocals. It is a brutal hammering at times driven by the blast-beats. However. In all that chaos, there is still room for short lead guitar contributions. "Anointed In Black Ichor" continues with the pummeling. It is another track at crazy pace. The guitar riffing is pretty much like that of the previous tracks. The crunching basslines are a main contributor and give the track an extra layer. The vocals are again two-parted; however, the harsh vocals are much more versatile compared to the preceding tracks. "Perverse Formulary Of Human Fluids" is a mixture of up-tempo and fast pace, led by the blast-beat thunderstorms. The guitar riffing is punishing and supported by the strong basslines. The vocals are only the deep-laying growls. Highlight of the track is the extended and very contributing lead guitar solo. "Perverse Formulary Of Human Fluids" is arguably the most brutal Death Metal track on the EP without any cross-genre inspirations. The EP finishes with "Submerged In Insecticide" and it starts at insane pace with plenty of aggression, direct riffing and crushing basslines. The vocals are mainly the higher pitched harsh vocals, while the deep-lying growls are more in the background for most of the time. Once again, there is a cool lead guitar solo, which gives the track something extra. "Submerged In Insecticide" is a good way to end the EP.

CAESAREAN deliver a decent debut release. "Wretched Decrepitude" ranges somewhere between brutal Death Metal and Hardcore. Most of the tracks are very aggressive with simple and direct guitar riffing, plenty of blast-beats, and crushing basslines. There are two types of vocals throughout the EP, the deep-lying growls and higher pitched harsh vocals, and those differences in vocal contribution determine the sound of the EP. Some of the songs sound very similar and one-dimensional. The songwriting needs a bit of improvement; however, the final two songs show promising signs. The EP is well produced. CAESAREAN announce themselves on the brutal Death Metal stage and the future will show, in which direction their journey will go to.
