Premature Exequie (Reissue)
Omicidio

From the EPK: OMICIDIO are the first incarnation of what would later become NIHILI LOCUS. It's 1989 and four very young musicians approach Metal and do it in an instinctive and violent way at the same time with a demo-tape of six songs that presents a very old school Death Thrash Metal but that is already characterized by the dark magic that will be the trademark of the sound of NIHILI LOCUS. Together with the new album "Semper", we will release the reissue of 1991 OMICIDIO demo-tape "Premature Exequie" on LP format.
Well, all that information saves me a lot of trying to find out about what this is all about. OMICIDIO is an Italian band that plays Death/Thrash Metal. They originate from Nichelino, an area of Turin. In 1991 OMICIDIO changed their name as mentioned in the paragraph above. I for one am not familiar with NIHILI LOCUS and therefore neither with OMICIDIO. But, as this is a demo I am reviewing, I can be a bit lenient. And I need to be, as the sound of this EP (in my ears it's too short to be an album at 21:24 minutes). You can hear that the band didn't have the funds to give their recordings a full-on production sound. Would that have mattered? I don't think so, as in those days a lot of demos didn't sound particularly beautiful. You mustn't forget that back then the musicians didn't have the availability of the technical abilities that are around in current times.
But it also wouldn't have mattered musically, as what OMICIDIO is playing on "Premature Exequie" is not only rather simple in sound, but rather limited in quality too. The songs aren't bad for a relatively new band, but they aren't exactly exciting either. It's all too much non-descript, doesn't hit any marks. It just is enthusiastic noise that needs to be re-arranged. Who knows, maybe that was done when they became NIHILI LOCUS. I believe that if you are a fan of NIHILI LOCUS and you don't own the original version of this demo, you should feel obliged to get this vinyl version and add it to your collection. If you love an underground sound in combination with VENOM and MIDNIGHT like Metal (without their brilliance) then you could also be in the running. I would advise you to have a good listen to how OMICIDIO sounds on "Premature Exequie" before deciding on your purchase.
