Neal Morse needs no introduction in the Progressive Rock world. From SPOCK'S BEARD to TRANSATLANTIC, this man has reached the level of a genius as a musician with interesting out of the box harmonies and arrangements and high virtuosity playing.
"Momentum" is Morse's newest album and as always he's done it again and with the help of Mike Portnoy and Randy George (on drums and bass). Morse reached, in my opinion, a new level of Progressive Rock. The album is a mix of Progressive and catchy Rock songs as the first self-titled track "Momentum" suggested. This one also has an amazing guest solo by Mr. Paul Gilbert and it is just a catchy Progressive Rock in the vein of a BEATLES song with interesting variations and harmonies that Morse has been known to produce from the days of SPOCK'S BEARD.
"Thoughts Part 5" is a different level entirely, the song is a masterpiece. From the Progressive like into to an a cappella part that is amazing it's just a masterpiece with intense drumming, bass lines, guitars and of course Keyboards giving provided by Morse's touch. That's what interesting about Neal Morse, even though he's a freaking genius he doesn't over show his virtuosity and the keys are a lot of the time just filling and giving atmosphere.
Another number worth mentioning is the last song on the album, a 35 minutes epic named "World Without End". I believe it to be Morse's best work to date. He shows us right there that he evolved and was born to compose and play a different level of music.
In conclusion if you like Progressive music and Neal Morse's work, this album is a must. Be hasty to buy it.
