Chosen

Glenn Hughes

The quality of his voice is as strong as it ever was. He still has the power to make the music come out stronger than it originally is. And he is still able to make it sound like a piece of cake when he opens that mouth if his and starts making the right noises.

Anyone who doesn't know the name GLENN HUGHES has missed a part of their Heavy Metal history lessons. Known as The Voice Of Rock he started his impressive career with bands like TRAPEZE, DEEP PURPLE and HUGHES AND THRALL before evolving into collaborating with GARY MOORE and BLACK SABBATH. He also has a whole lot of (impressive) solo albums in his discography. What must not be forgotten is that he was one of the founders of BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, way back in 2009. A supergroup that is still active. And since 2019 he is an integral part of another supergroup; THE DEAD DAISIES. So, if this is all news for you, you really do have some catching up to do. If everything I put down is old news to you, the you are undoubtedly are ready to hear and experience his lates venture in the Melodic Rock world, which he has named "Chosen". Let me start by assuring you that the quality of his voice is as strong as it ever was. He still has the power to make the music come out stronger than it originally is. And he is still able to make it sound like a piece of cake when he opens that mouth if his and starts making the right noises. And he needs to, as I feel that the music on "Chosen" is far from the best he has ever made. I'm not going to tell you he has made a bad or unworthy record, but it also isn't going to be on top of the list when it comes to rating all of his endeavours over the years. What I would call what GLENN HUGHES is doing now is solid, following a path that he knows that suits him. The songs that have been written fit him like a snug wetsuit, make him come out on top of it all. But to me it all lacks that bit of extra that will get me wanting or trying to listen to "Chosen" as often as possible. Like I mentioned, there isn't a bad song on it, but there isn't a proper belter on it either, and that is what could have made this GLENN HUGHES stand out from some of the others he has made. Let me phrase it like this: if I come to visit you and you are playing "Chosen" on your stereo, I will and shall enjoy it for the 50:52 minutes it lasts. You won't hear me complain for a second. But I would not have "Chosen" this album if I wanted you to hear what I most admire in GLENN HUGHES.
