Transitional Objects

Headless

Overall, this was a good listening experience. The band is talented, but they don’t let their technique steal the thunder away from their melodies and harmonies. It was a promising release, and I hope to hear more from the band soon.

Besides just a bit of information I was able to find about the band, I could not find any bio data, so we will have to let the music do the talking. The album has eight songs, and “Weightless” is first. It has that familiar ring of Progressive Metal…warm melodies, complex rhythm guitar work, vocal harmonies, and a bit of meter shifting. “Losing Power” has more energy behind it from rolling drums, shifting guitar riffs, thumping bass, and more warm vocal harmonies. For me, it combines some of the best features of Power and Progressive Metal. There is however a bit of lost connection in the key at times. “Fall to Pieces” has harder structures but also a lot of harmony and melody, especially as the vocals soar in the chorus.

“Misery” has some angry and downtrodden elements as the title suggests. But again, when the chorus comes around, vocal harmonies fire high. “Still My Thrill” is straight up melody, twisted and bent into a proper form. The riff is memorable, and so are the vocals. Progressive elements are lessened to allow the melody to just shine, and shine it does. It is the best song on the album so far. The lead guitar work is fantastic also. “Refugee” moves slowly, and allows that sound to sink in deep in your bones. This one and previous one are a really nice two song run, and the album is getting even better. “No One’s Waiting” is a mid-tempo offering that is again struck with a lot of vocal harmonies, and this is one constant that the band does very well on the album.

“I Thought I Knew It All” closes the album, and it slows to a mid-tempo groove high with vocal harmonies once again. Overall, this was a good listening experience. The band is talented, but they don’t let their technique steal the thunder away from their melodies and harmonies. It was a promising release, and I hope to hear more from the band soon.
