Double Vision
Double Vision

Double Vision started out as a Foreigner tribute band in the United States performing to lively and sold out crowds up and down the East Coast and across the country soon becoming a real big live draw.Double Visions line up consists of some of New York's top professional musicians Chandler Mogel (Outloud,Jeff Waters Amerikan Kaos & Punky Meadows),Guitar maestros Paul Baccash and Chris Schwartz,Scott Metaxas (ex Prophet),Scott Duboys (ex Warrior Soul) with keyboard virtuoso Alex Lubin. The band then decided that they would make an album of their own original songs influenced by that Foreigner sound.Frontiers immediately were interested in supporting Double Vision's plans in entering the second phase of their career to try and establish a foothold in the Melodic Rock genre, with a debut album that recreates that 80's rock sound with a contemporary take.
The album opener "Prisoner Of Illusion" offers a solid and modest opening to this album with a strong upbeat melody with the sax a very nice touch mid track & latter track. With Double Vision been a Foreigner tribute act before releasing this album of original material they are going to be the obvious comparisons but for most of the album that could be further from the truth."No Fool For Love" has that classic 80's AOR sound with some nice key touches and a great chorus, again those sax tones make the track sound cool along with the smooth vocals from Chandler Mogel and the nice melodic guitar riffs. There is also the big AOR ballads "The Man You Make Me" with the acoustic guitar parts, the violin & cello giving the track a dramatic touch, the heart felt vocals are sublime."Look Out For Love" is another ballad beginning acoustically which builds to a big ending featuring a great guitar solo, with also another big power ballad "A Strangers Face" again featuring those touching violin & cello passages.Tracks like "I Know The Way","Youforia" do have slight touches and similarities to the AOR greats such as Foreigner & Journey and both have catchy choruses & melodies which are very likeable, which you can't help but singalong to.Double Vision have a distinctive sound which fits in perfectly with some of the greats, "Silence Is Louder" with lots of keys presence, has great harmonies with some great guitar work which gives the track that classic American Rock vibe."Church Of The Open Mind" & "This Day And Age" & "Once Before" are perfect tracks which invite you to turn up loud and cruise down the freeway or in the living room turn up the stereo, the latter track has some superb sax touches which is a very soulful track. The last track on the album "Love Could Rule" is a fitting way to round of this album with a with a solid offering of hard rock.
This self titled album from Double Vision is a solid debut album which I really enjoyed.A great slice of AOR and Hard Rock with some great vocals and musicianship with great production.Double Vision have a bright future releasing their own material after this solid release.Definately an album worth checking out a great listen.7 / 10
