Chapel of Bones
Beleth's Trumpet

Beleth's Trumpet hails from Finland, and the band is pretty new on the black metal stage. They have a demo and a single out there. The demo was released in 2024, and the single in 2025 (Mass Grave (Of Angels). You can find that track on this album. Finland is not known for their black metal. Even if they also had a second wave back in the 90s. I'm thinking of bands like Beherit, Impaled Nazarene, and, of course, Barathrum. Finnish black metal has always been known for being raw in production, and the (dark war): with the Norwegian black metal band. According to Isten fanzine's satirical article, the conflict originated from several misunderstandings and practical jokes involving Laiho, but Mika Luttinen of Impaled Nazarene believed he received death threats in Norwegian. His band's first album had a statement saying "no orders from Norway accepted", which Luttinen later admitted was stupid and childish. Laiho commented on the conflict in an interview for the January 1994 issue:
"When we started the band about 4 years ago, we knew this, and so that's okay. Now there are more people against us ‘cause of these new rules and all these stupid rumours spread by our Norwegian enemies... but I don’t care so much. But that’s a bit sad that the black metal underground scene is totally split." For me, when I listen to Beleth's Trumpet and the album Chapel of Bones, I do hear the Finnish legacy. The production is raw, has an influence of death metal, and I like that. The first track, "Triumphant Voice of Beleth", has a nice 90s touch to it and makes a kind of statement. The sound is raw, the lyrics are old-school black, featuring themes of Satan, 666, and pentagrams. M.SF voice is close to both black and death metal (the 80s). It's a fast-paced track, but it features a melody and tremolo-picked guitars. the next track on the album "Mass Grave (of Angels)" is a slower one, not heavy, cause the production doesn't allow that, but "Mass Grave (of Angels)" gives space to the band so you hear what they can.
A lot of atmosphere in this track. A strong one. I will not go track by track, I take those that stand out. "Chapel of Bones" the title track, is worth mentioning, another fast-paced track. Beleth's Trumpet has a lot in common with Lord Belial; just like Lord Belial, they keep the melody, and they come close to the more melodic part of black metal. "Clandestine Ritual" is another strong track, once again slower, and has a lot of atmosphere and melodic. Beleth's Trumpet is not a band that brings something mainstream to a genre , that has lost a lot of its identity to the mainstream morgue. Some people will complain about that part, but I like it. If you have listened to black metal since the 90s , miss that era, you will like this album. "Death's Cold Hand" has a first-wave black metal to it, and the punk and thrash metal influences are strong, awesome track. The album ends with the track "Black Light", I would say a track that is a bit of Beleth's Trumpet signum, able to create a lot of atmosphere, keep it raw, keep it black metal. If you're looking for something that has a strong connection to the roots of black metal, is not overproduced, and still has that rebellious black metal attitude, and doesn't give a f*ck about what we reviewers think. Buy this album.
