Medley Of A Life
Mihrax

From Bandcamp, “MIHRAX is a Progressive Rock band from Berlin, Germany. The EP “Medley Of A Life” tells the life of a fictional person in a five-part long track. The band merges different influences into their well-known crossover sound and develops their own sound once again. Recommended for fans of concept albums and progressive music in general. The EP has give songs, and “First Steps” is the first. The opening tones feature a bevy of string arrangements, a gentle sway, and a baby crying inconsolably. The vocals are very emotional and expressive, and this is Progressive Rock, indeed. Segueing into “Die Another Day,” the sonority increases with a firm guitar riff, animated bass note, and backing keys. For me, it’s like a trip down memory late to some of the 80’s bands I used to love. The vocals are expressive once more, and the music a little more nuanced.
“Jigsaw of Life” Is where the wheels get a little loose on the music bus. Although the riffs shift in and about, the key of the vocals isn’t always connected to the music. They funky bits are groovy, however. The skies shift again at the advent of “Closed Circle,” and the smooth, melancholy song is peppered with positive tones. Transitioning to the final song, “Peace” Is the closer, and the tones are once again gentle, with many strings. The constant ticking of a clock in the background might be there to remind us that we have limited time on earth, while the familiar beeping of vital signs in a hospital bed may also remind us that death is only a turn away for most of us.
Overall, it was bit challenging to find the overall vision in the album. At times, I thought I had it, and then it shifted once again. The album has potential, and I would love to hear more from the band.
