Doomsday Profit
Doomsday Profit

From Bandcamp, there is only on quote that summarizes their music, “DOOMSDAY PROFIT deep-fries its doom riffs in psychedelic scuzz, riding bad vibes toward sweet oblivion." The album has six songs, and “Stargazer” is first. The opening tones are crushing, low, and slow, and the vocals are raspy. I get a CROWBAR feeling here, although there are snippets of melody present as well. It’s a blues-based song. “Spirits” is another slow offering, with meaty bass notes and fuzzy riffs that are just a bit out of tune at times. It’s nothing major, and it just adds to the flavor of the album in my opinion. Sometimes, the melody gets lost as well.
“The South Will Sink” has similar pacing and a similar sound, although somber elements sink in deeper…all the way to your soul. The riffs are simple and easy to understand, but the song fails to really get off the ground for me. “Drive into the Sun” is faster and more energetic, and it has some subtle Punk influence. It’s no wonder that I get a MOTORHEAD vibe here. The title track is a little thicker, a little more filled out, but still nasty and crushing. However, the band isn’t doing much to distance themselves from the plethora of others in the genre. “Monument to Nothing” is the final offering. It’s the longest, but not overly exciting once again. They ride out the riff like an ocean current, and don’t deviate much from its path.
The best part of the album was the bass work. It wasn’t a bad album by any stretch, it was just too plain…too one sided for me. Doom Metal can be very vibrant, and quite exciting, if done the right way. This album just didn’t get off the ground for me, save for that final song, which was excellent.
