Tatkraft
Sun After Dark

Sun After Dark is a project by Benjamin König from Germany. Benjamin König was a founding member of the Black Metal band Lunar Aurora (1994-2012). With Sun After Dark he has now created his own debut album entitled “Tatkraft“ (German word for drive/energy/moxie). The music on “Tatkraft” consists of stories, experiences and episodes. The lyrics are in English, German and Bavarian dialect. Since Benjamin König comes from Upper Bavaria, it was appropriate to use his native dialect in some song passages. Produced by Victor Bullok (Triptykon) in the Woodshed Studios late last year This is solely a project and there will be no tour or live dates, however future albums are planned in the future.
An atmospheric start to the opening track “Dawn And Dirges” with synth led intro which build the anticipation, then come the drums, then the gritty guitar riffs and a mixture of operatic and aggressive vocals which work very well, there is lighter moments mixed with the heavier which give the perfect balance.”Waidmanns Hoffnung” keys and dub beats sound cool with choir/tenor style vocals lead the first few minutes of this seven minute track, the double kick drum instrumental in picking up the energy, before back to the more of the same mellow before the energy again goes up to 11 to end this epic track.” Ohne Gråb” in English means “Without Grave or Without Tomb” is a dark And aggressive nature with swirls of keyboards fused around the heavy melody's.” Schlittenfahrt” has some folk elements to it although it is missing the drama & mystery effect from the tracks which proceed it.
”Burning Blue” is atmospheric due to the heavy keyboard presence which is infused around a chugging guitar riff, with operatic style vocals transitioning seamlessly into a heavier more aggressive vocal & musical tone before returning to to a spacey mellow ending.”Nabe” has a bold bassline with the same style of previous track.” Leaving Metropolis” has is like a modern day rock hymn before we arrive at the last track “ Antarctic Morning” which is over 9 minutes long starts with an interesting 3 minute instrumental intro with orchestral parts, keys you name it,before alternating between calmer and more aggressive parts .Its like the track is split into chapters very creative.
Sun After Dark “ Tatkraft” is a very interesting concept of an album. At times it can be a hard listen especially as this is out of my comfort zone musically and not normally my go to style. However there is some interesting moments on this record which are a fresh, very experimental and what you can't imagine working surprisingly does and sounds really cool. On the whole I appreciated the album for what it was and what Sun After Dark were trying to achieve. Definitely worth checking out.
