Everyone For Themselves
Our North

Sheffield hard hitters, OUR NORTH, have been serving up their enticing brand of Metalcore, fused with Hip Hop and Trap, since their formation in 2019. Channelling everyone from BRING ME THE HORIZON and WHILE SHE SLEEPS to BAD OMENS, OUR NORTH unleash a sound that is soaked in power, venom, diversity, and passion. Well, that is what the EPK says. I just hear LINKIN PARK with the heavier parts using a grunt or scream that is a bit more extreme. And that is mainly due to the slower, lighter bits, which have more of a Nu-Metal vibe than a Metalcore one, for which the vocals but also the way the keyboards are incorporated are responsible. Is that a bad thing? It doesn’t have to be.
Before today the band released a few singles, and as far as I can tell “Everyone For Themselves” is their debut EP, even if the promotion company SaN PR says it is their sophomore one. I can’t find anything before this one. But let’s get back to the music. like I said, it doesn’t matter if you use a lot of bands as inspiration, as long as you try and mix those ideas with your own insights in order to create music that makes you sound like yourself, making you just that bit different from the others, if you will, making you stand out. Well, after six years of practising you and I might expect OUR NORTH to have that down properly. But if I am the one to ask, I will tell you they haven’t. Like I mentioned earlier, their sound makes me think of LINKIN PARK more than anyone else and I can’t imagine that this was what the band was looking to achieve with the release of “Everyone For Themselves”.
What is not worth any complaints are the songs themselves. They are all of a very decent quality, with a good amount of interaction between the quieter and heavier parts. Not only that, they all have a good build up, a sturdy body and a fitting end to them. Plus, the vocals are all used ate exactly the right intensity and emotion. Clean when needed, sweet when required and heavy as fuck when asked. It makes listening to “Everyone For Themselves” a real treat, even if I feel that OUR NORTH hasn’t got and isn’t giving us a unique sound that is just theirs. That makes this an adequate album that is self-released by the band. If you like you Metalcore and LINKIN PARK, I suggest you give OUR NORTH a try. Maybe “Everyone For Themselves” is just what your doctor ordered.
