From Bandcamp, “CHAMBER OF MIRRORS is a one-man Black Metal band, and they hail from Searless Valley, California, USA. “Tales of Blood” is their third full-length release. The album has eight songs, and “Dominion” is first. Out of the gate, the sound is reminiscent of the FWOBM. The production has too much treble in the mix, the guitars create a wall of sound, the drums pound away furiously, and the vocals are heathen screams. “Mistress of the Blood Red Moon” shows the band with no signs of slowing the intense pace and thick music, although it does sound a bit like the first track. “Soul of Sorrow” is another blistering offering that shows the band plowing ahead without looking down. The underbrush of the song is so thick, it entangles the listener in its snare.

“Ancient Embers of Endless Time” is another song with the gas pedal pressed to the floor without the foot coming off or hesitating even a little. Four songs into the album now, and it’s difficult to tell them apart. “Stolen Flame” hears the continual pattern repeated once again, although there are some nice, harrowing background elements. The pacing is exactly the same however, and the constant cymbal crashes dominate the sound. “The Serpent” is another song that mover forward over the terrain with a heavy boot that crushes everything beneath it along the way. It’s hard to discern a lot of what is going on. The title track is the first song that slows a bit to breathe, and I like the atmosphere the band develops here…it reminds me of outer space in many ways.

“I am Eternal” is the final song, and it’s back to the standard sound again. There are some variations in the riff, as well as some backing elements, but they take a back seat to the unending rage. If you are a fan of old school, FWOBM inspired Black Metal, this album is for you. It is intense, raging, and uncompromising. For those of us who aren’t rooted in the traditions of the genre however, this album might not be for you.
