High Speed Death was a pretty well-known underground band. If you were around the 80s and a part of the early 90s , you may have heard them on some tape trading cassette. Damned Genesis was recorded by the band, and they released 50 tapes of this demo back in 1991. It was not that common with bands from Italy in the black thrash genre back then. They did have heavy influences from Hellhammer, Bathory and Merciless. The demo of Damned Genesis was far from perfection, but good enough to listen to. Mauro their bass player, did leave the band in 1991. And that was the end of High Speed Death. And the beginning of Crepuscule (Split up in 1992). Raff Sangiorgio did join Gory Blister, and Rudy can be found in Sovran.

In 2024, Ripping Storm Records did a remastered re-release of Damned Genesis, limited to 100 tapes, and in 2025, La Caverna Records did a 300 limited CD re-release. The thing with remastered  music and a try to get some extra cash????? from a demo...in this genre, is that they lose something. It's not the same. That genuine feeling is gone; it simply sounds dead. Let's dive into Damned Genesis. 40-minute-long demo, the re-release, has 2 extra songs. They are not there on the original demo. The first track is an intro, so I go for the second track, "Damned Genesis" . High Speed Death did aim for music that they did have influences from; that's why "Damned Genesis" sounds more like a heavy metal track , then a death metal track. "The Land of No Return" is more in the black metal genre; High Speed Death could play, and you hear it on this demo. Ok, there are things that need more work; the transitions could be more smooth. But this is a demo. For me, it's hard to listen to, because I have heard the original demo, and that one sounds way more brutal. The new mastering destroys a lot; this genre has never been about the perfect sound; get it crystal clear. A part of it was to have a dirty sound.

The next track that has something special, "Destructive Creation" the best track on the demo? High Speed Death was skilled already on Damned Genesis, "Destructive Creation" is a track that has a lot into it, and from what I know, the remains of High Speed Death, did take a turn into technical death metal, and you can hear it here. The last two tracks are rehearsal tracks from 1990, "Damned Genesis" also on the demo, and "Devotion in Evil" also on the demo, and the fun part is that those two tracks sound way more wild and raw , but most important, they give you the right feeling. So many bands, out there today hunt the perfect sound. They mix the music to death. It simply sounds too good; the metal feeling is gone. This demo, "Damned Genesis" was not that bad from the beginning. If you keep in mind that there are an extreme amount of demos from this time period, High Speed Death did stand out. Ok, there is no coherence or a red line through this demo. The songwriting was what it was, but once again, this was a demo. The idea of making a remastered demo is nothing that I really understand or will. Is it even a demo anymore? For those of you that have heard the original, this version of the demo has nothing to offer. For those of you who have not, give it a try.
