Negative Sun
Heart Attack

This third album from French thrash/groove metallers Heart Attack is truly a testament to the band’s evolution and artistic growth. Negative Sun heralds in a new dynamic and drive. Signed to Atomic Fire Records-now Reigning Phoenix Music the current band members aren’t here to mess around, they’re fully committed to their craft. Their dedication to detail is shown in every aspect of this album, each track without exception showcasing their innovative creativity. What stands out to me is the bands exceptional cohesion. Whilst each musician is individually brilliant the synergy and intuitive connection between them all is immense. As you dive into the album for the third time (trust me, you won’t be able to resist) you might notice their influences, some say Metallica and Gojira…but this band is truly one-of-a-kind and they are going places (personally, I’m hoping for a UK tour in 2026)
The short introductory track “Rituals” slowly unfolds and taps into the sounds of our ancestors… the rhythms and vibrations of old. Don’t be lulled though, steel yourself for the full-on thrash metal onslaught of “Septic Melody” a dark, loud, angry speedfest. Driving rhythm section, growling vocals, melodic backdrop. Perfect headbanging material. “Wings of Judgement” comes in heavy, with a pounding rhythm that’ll rattle your ribcage (hints of Metallica’s Battery, for sure). The lead guitar rips through, hitting every note with precision, while the powerful vocals add that extra punch. Straight up metal. “World Consumption” blends an intense fast driving rhythm with flowing vocals woven into dynamic soundscapes. Shifting tempos and captivating lead guitar solos add to its addictive quality, pulling you back to its relentless pace every time.
“Twisted Sacrifice” featuring Rasta from Decapitated, is a metaphorical dive into the mosh pit. This fast unyielding thrash metal assault is filled with dissonant tones, harsh vocals and unbroken energy. It’s literal heart attack material. From the razor-sharp riffs of “Take your Pride Back” to the raw power of “Bound to this Land” and the intricate complexities of “The Messenger” this carefully crafted album constantly evolves. The album closes with its title track “Negative Sun”, a masterful composition incorporating gradual layering. It begins with a foundational melody on the lead guitar, the rhythm section joins adding richness and depth. As the music swells it is enveloped by an immersive soundscape and the vocals are then woven in. The texture grows and becomes more dynamic, varied and intense. Ultimately a breathtaking ascending guitar solo grabs your attention, leaving an imprint that lingers long after the song ends.
NEGATIVE SUN isn’t a traditional thrash album that sticks to a single formula from start to finish. Instead, it is an eclectic journey where no two tracks sound alike. The way the tracks are arranged provides a smooth yet dynamic flow. This band are pushing the boundaries, experimenting and highlighting different aspects of their musicality. Whether it’s the explosive energy, the heavy grooves or the carefully crafted details in each composition, this album proves that the band is fully in control of their sound and are eager to explore.
