In Horror, Reborn
Disfuneral

DISFUNERAL were formed in 2015, and they are from Nancy, France. The Death Metal band released one EP and one full-length album so far. Their sophomore album “In Horror, Reborn” was mixed and mastered by Robert Pehrsson (DEATH BREATH; ETERNAL EVIL; TRIBULATION). The album has a length of about 35 minutes, and it was released via US Death Metal specialists Redefining Darkness Records. The album has a dark start with the pre-lude for “Catacomb Dwellers”, driven by the guitars at a measured tempo. The track transitions into powerful guitar riffs at a stomping rhythm and grim melodies. The vocals are growls and vary around the medium end of the guttural range. There is no tempo shift between verse and chorus parts, however, there is a drastic shift for the break and the lead guitar solo that is played at breakneck speed. “Tombs Vomitting The Dead” is a track at crazy pace with aggressive and direct guitar riffing and aggressive vocals. The track has a few Hardcore vibes, in particular during the bridge for the chorus part. It is a very simple and very aggressive track. The break offers a tempo shift towards mid-tempo, but it does not take long for the lead guitar solo to be played at crazy pace. “Ripped From Within” is a delivery of devastating guitar riffing and blood-freezing melodies at mid-tempo during the verse parts and measured tempo during the choruses. The track is again very direct and aggressive. The bridge is supported by a blast-beat thunderstorm. No break or solo are added; it is a very raw and simple track.
“Crypt Of Demented” starts at a measured tempo with punishing guitar riffs leading into the verse part. It is a head-banger during the verse/chorus parts, the riffing is direct and simple, and the vocals are once again very aggressive. There is a switch towards measured tempo to introduce the break, which has doom-laden melodies. During the break, another twist kicks in with a frantic part and a short lead guitar solo. Eventually, the track circles back to another verse part for all head-bangers. “Extremity In Morbidity” leans towards mid-tempo with subtle twists and switches. The guitar riffing is punishing and tight at times and the whole track has many Crust vibes with the typical rhythm. The highlight is the lead guitar solo towards the end of the track. “Extremity In Morbidity” has been released as video, and the YouTube link is provided below. “Dark Ages Ritual” starts with a guitar-driven intro, providing the main melody of the track. The melodies are spine-chilling, and the track is played at a measured tempo with a stomping rhythm. It is one of the darkest album tracks with a few blackened vibes. There is a short and abrupt shift in tempo for the lead guitar solo being played at an insane pace.
After the grim “Dark Ages Ritual”, “Blessed By Decay” goes back to a faster and more direct and aggressive approach. The guitar riffing is devastating, and the vocals are aggressive and include a few screams. The tempo slows down for the break, providing bone-chilling melodies and a very contributing lead guitar solo. The end of the track provides a seamless transition into the title track and that one raises pace instantly and what follows is pure mayhem and chaos at a blistering pace. The break slows down to a measured tempo and darkness creeps into the track. In fact, the switches from relentless and aggressive fast parts to doom-laden slow parts keep the listener on their toes in “In Horror, Reborn”. Certainly, the title track is one of the album highlights. The album finishes with the crushing “Call From The Void” at frantic pace. Once again, when the tempo changes, this time led by crunching basslines, darkness is emphasized, and the melodies are grim and chilling. “Call From The Void” is somehow a reflection of the whole album and a good way to finish it.
DISFUNERAL release a crushing Death Metal album. The songs on the album are very direct and aggressive without a lot of technicalities. The focus is put on a mixture of grim and frantic delivery. The album is well produced. “In Horror, Reborn” is for all Death Metal fans, who love it simple, direct, and aggressive.
