Breaker

Breaker

“Breaker” is a celebration of old school Heavy Metal inspired by the 80s
May 26, 2025

BREAKER were formed in 2023, and they are from Toronto, Canada. The Heavy Metal band release their self-named debut EP.  “Breaker” was mastered by Phil Demetro (CONFLICTED; GOAT HORN), and it has a length of about 10 minutes. While the EP has been released independently in 2024, Italian Death, Thrash, and Gothic Metal specialists WormHoleDeath re-released the EP. The EP starts with the title track, and it is a classical Heavy Metal track with plenty of 80s vibes. It is a fast track with traditional Heavy Metal guitar riffing, supported by a lot of double-bass drumming. The vocals vary between the medium and higher end of the vocal range with many higher pitched notes being utilized. The break maintains the tempo and rhythm and transitions into an extended lead guitar solo, which comes with many Rock vibes during the first part. “Breaker” is a good opening track as it shows the direction of the things to come. The track has been released as lyric video, and the YouTube link is provided below.

Babylon” continues with the Heavy Metal assault and the guitar riffing bring again the 80s vibes to the table with a few SAXON vibes. It is a mid-tempo track with catchy melodies and almost sing-along choruses. At the heart of the track is the break with another contributing and cool lead guitar solo. The final track “Liberty” starts with a pre-lude at a measured tempo with dark melodies and powerful guitar riffing. The track transitions into a mid-tempo track with tight guitar riffing and crunching basslines. The vocals follow the melodies during the verse parts. The chorus part slows down tempo a bit and the melodies provided are catchy with anthemic choruses. The break introduces an extended and contributing lead guitar solo. The melodic framework of “Liberty” is grim and the sound as well as vocals are full of anger. “Liberty” has Bobby Deuce (DEADWOLFF) on bass and Merlyn Beal provides the backing vocals.

BREAKER release a relatively short debut and a first teaser of the direction the band wants to go to with their Metal sound. “Breaker” is a celebration of old school Heavy Metal inspired by the 80s. The guitar riffing is solid, and the lead guitars carry all three tracks. There is still a bit work to do with the songwriting and with finding an own style, however, the final track “Liberty” shows the potential of the band. The EP is well produced. It is good to see that there are bands out there, which go back to the Heavy Metal roots, and I am sure BREAKER will find a good place in the Metal universe.
