Rhapsody - Ascending To Infinity album cover

After a few listening sessions with this album, I have to say that this is exactly what I expected, Luca Turilli has managed to make a formula that has always been effective and it went on and on for many years as the usage of cinematic and movie concepts as ideas to implement into the Metal world. This time it was no exception.

This album is just for fans of RHAPSODY, because you'll not find anything different here, it's the use (and abuse) of the same formula that has brought success to the band (especially Turilli, the mastermind behind it all). Just to focus on the topic: imagine a movie, but this time you really have to imagine it, it's only up to you to see how the movie goes, you only get clues as the rest is in your head.

Musically speaking, there's only talent here, aptitude and fashion, use of excellent production, amazing guitars, beautiful melodies provided by the keys and other orchestral instruments included, standard percussion, not bad but still good, but standard for me (and I'm no one, remember that). Lyrically, as I said, it is a movie, that you have to "make" in some way, interesting, but made before (by the band itself).

The low point here may be based upon you not being a fan. I believe that if you aren't a diehard fan, you may get bored, because this release was mainly written for those who know them, who would be ready to stand up for them. This album is another variation of the same formula, a good one, but a known one too, so you could hate this as much as you love it. All in all, Turilli's a genius and there's no doubt about it, this is just another proof of that, but remember: a genius also needs experimentation, beside what he knows to do very, very well.
