Bluetgraf

This was a straight up burner from start to finish, and while I typically don’t especially like homogenous albums, the level of rage and intensity on “Bluetgraf” is noteworthy. It you are hankering for a good ass-whooping, give it a spin.

From Bandcamp, “With their third full-length (first on Soulseller Records) the witching Swiss black metal duo have brewed an unusual piece of dark art. The album combines fury blast beats and up-tempo with melodic leads that will stick in your head. Thematically it is all about different stories about vampires, including the most famous ones like Vlad Tepes, and local myths. Travel through the myths woven and told through the band’s native Luzern dialect. The album has seven songs, and the title track is first. It explodes out of the gate with a massive blow of blast beats, guitars, and harsh vocals. There are also some Classical leanings within the frame of the song.

“För Emmer” is another deeply fast and aggressive offering, which is common for the genre. Fill the background with as much stuff as you can, and let the harsh vocals rage. There are some melodic moments as well, but they are buried in the thicket. “Jagd” is the third rager in a row, and at this point in the album, it seems evident that is the sound that the band is going to push, or more like, ram down your throat. The pace is slower, but the intensity of the drums especially does not let up. “Vlad” pays homage to the most infamous of all “vampires.” It has woeful tones to go along with the aggression, and in my mind’s eye, I can see Vlad impaling people as his army continues their conquest.

“Dominator” is just that…a dominating sense of power comes from the song. Darkness wells up and threatens to swallow the listener whole…it has a harrowing sound that it bested only by the abyss. “Wit Wääg vo de Sonne” is shorter, but no less intense. In fact, they dial up the intensity and blow through all barriers with a song that burns so hot, it leaves a trail of smoke in its wake. “Hass” is the final song, and it leaves no doubt as to the purity of the album. It is so fast, you can barely see it barrel by as you blink, and it’s gone. This was a straight up burner from start to finish, and while I typically don’t especially like homogenous albums, the level of rage and intensity on “Bluetgraf” is noteworthy. It you are hankering for a good ass-whooping, give it a spin.
