Crucifixion of Orchids

Acceptance

On “Crucifixion of Orchids,” ACCEPTANCE paints a picture of a lonely and desolate world, whose only stimulation comes from an occasional visit from a mysterious man who tortures you for a while and then disappears again, leaving your wounds time to heal, only to return again, and repeat the cycle over and over again.

Try as I may, I could find no information about this band anywhere. Previously called FATALIST, this is their new album (EP?), and it has five songs. “Grief” is the first song. It’s an extremely cold and dark song with a massive bottom end, and the riffs are like something out of a nightmare. It picks up in pace approaching the halfway mark, and a wall of riffs takes over with chaos. You get the ominous sense that this is the end of the world. “Empyreal” is just as nasty, and with a healthy dose of double kick drum and blast beats. The vocals are tortured, and sound like they are coming from someone who is frustrated and emoting out to the world. There is a gentler section of clean guitars, but that tension is still omnipresent, and it ends with guitar tones that sound like they are dying.

“Wither” is aggressive but also hopeless in scope. The torture comes at you like a raging fire, there is nowhere you can escape. There is some levity, but it doesn’t last long. The intensity actually increases heading towards the end, with the monumental pound of reverberating bass notes and drums. “Ark” has a faster pace and the tortured vocals return, at times turning down the register to gutturals. It’s a two-and-a-half minute burner that burns so hot, it doesn’t last long, but it makes an impact. “Paradise” closes the album, at over 11 minutes. The title isn’t reflective of the song…it’s a play on words. It begins gentle enough, but the dark clouds on the horizon tell you the storm is coming, and when it hits, run for cover. It sounds like the wheels are coming off the speeding bus, but somehow, the band maintains control.
