If you're anything like me, you have never heard of SECTU before. "Gerra" is their sophomore album and is much like their first album "Inundate". Hailing from Sweden, SECTU is a Death Metal band that many might be tempted to describe as technical or progressive, however there are hints of groove and at times, even a melodic edge. The songs are very intense and SECTU can even be compared to MESHUGGAH
"Gerra"'s first track, also titled "Gerra", is a short intro, less than 15 seconds. SECTU keeps a solid near technical Death Metal theme throughout the CD, but also keeping a variety that is sure to please any Death Metal fan. "Incinerate", the second track has Groove Metal qualities reminiscent of LAMB OF GOD. In "Havoc", about midway through the CD, one can hear very melodic riffs that are also catchy. Many of the songs have multiple layers to them, which give them an organic feel.
The musicianship and production of "Gerra" are superb, but as the CD gets 3/4 of the way through, or becomes repetitive and same old thing. I'm not saying it's a bad release. This is only SECTU 's second CD and they have plenty of time to evolve.
