Sloppy Seconds
Sexcrement

Coming into this review, I knew very little of SEXCREMENT. Just looking from a distance, one would think they are just some garden variety Pornogrind / Brutal Death Metal band. But upon closer inspection, they are much closer to the sound of old school Death Metal like ENTOMBED or MORBID ANGEL. Lyrically, they lean towards something slightly more sophomoric like PSYCHOSTICK, but it works for them.
"Sloppy Seconds" is 36 minutes of riff fuelled insanity. Evan Duplessis's furiously fast playing mixed with Devon Hunt's old school, intricate drumming gives them a classic Death Metal feel with groovy undertones. Adam Mason's vocals aren't extraordinary, but they work well. But what really makes them stand out is Peter "Blue" Spinazola's slick bass work. He can follow the rhythm and beef up the sound, but he also manages to stand out on his own like in "Chemical Handcuffs", which stands out as my favorite track off the album, and "Heels Up".
On the whole, "Sloppy Seconds" is a solid album. While some of the songs may suffer a bit from some "sound-alike"-ness, in general it's a good album. I would suggest this for any fan of CANNABIS CORPSE, ENTOMBED, or AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED.
