We are visiting Finland Metal today, kids. Finland is a fertile ground for everything heavy and creative, and presents the world with great bands from CHILDREN OF BODOM to NIGHTWISH and everything in between. Today we have another band with a Suomi (go Goggle) power trio. The name of the band is KAISER and they are releasing their second album named 2nd Sound via Majestic Mountain Records. After hearing the first track “Brotha”, I have to tell you that I like what I am hearing. Stoner Metal with chaos and melody and all the heaviness you expect. The bass sound is right in your face and the vocals are relentless. The second track “1,5 Dozen” keeps the energy up with some crazy vocals and tempos.
Nice song structure and some killer melody lines. The band delivers a variety of riffs and tempo changes and some cool guitar work handled by Otu (love these names) that also have some impressive vocals. The sound is heavy as fuck as if BLACK SABBATH had a baby after all the drug years. The singing melodies are cool and varied as you can hear in the good “Meteorhead” and the guitar solos are tasty. The band explore some crazy tempos with property with competent drummer Riq that lays the foundation for the other guys to create tasty heavy riffs like in “Oversized Load” which reminded me a lot of SOUNDGARDEN and this brings joy to my ears. The songs keep getting better and crazier and the band is not shy of exploring crazy vibes like in the beautiful “Stood Still” that has some cool acoustic guitar work and some bongo shenanigans adding some folklore to the album. A good breaker in the middle after some crazy tracks to give you time to rest for what's next.
And next is “Awaken Monster” and the title of the track says it all. After creating the mood with the guitar and the amazing bass sound of bass player Pex, the drums bring you to a crescendo before your senses are attacked again with some crazy heavy riffage. This is one of those albums that you listen from beginning to end (fuck social media shorts) as it is hard to pinpoint the best song. The appreciators of the genre will have a lot to explore. So many good bands come to my mind. KAISER can also create interesting movie liken soundtracks like in the beginning of "A Clockwork Green", which is another killer track and is becoming my favorite of the album so far. The vocals are incredible and the melody captivating. We end our journey with the also trippy as fuck “Aftershook” with a guitar riff worthy of Tony Iommi. A very good and creative band that deserves a download to my Zoom to be dissected in detail. A joint will greatly increase the experience.
