Operation Party Destroy
Nuclearsaurus Rex
Australians are a special species of humankind. That is quite understandable, seeing how they all grew up on a former prison colony which happens to be an island just above Antarctica. And sometimes that shows in the music that bands from that continent produce. One of the strangest sounding ones in recent times is NUCLEARSAURUS REX. Not because of their music, as that is straight forward Crossover Metal. For those who don’t know what that is, it is Thrash Metal mixed with Hardcore Metal. Think D.R.I. and CRISIX, but you could also add S.O.D. and M.O.D. No, the reason they are strange is because of how they have mixed the dinosaurs with nuclear waste without blinking an eye. You only have to look at the titles of the songs to see what I mean.
NUCLEARSAURUS REX are from Brisbane, and have been around since 2021. This means that they are relativity new, but boy do they know which way they are heading. “Operation Party Destroy” is already their second EP, after “Pegasus Ezekiel” from 2021. Like I said, musically this is pure crossover, and of a rather good standard as well. I like the way NUCLEARSAURUS REX have mixed up rhythms and intensity, and how they have been able to make everything sound as light-hearted as they have achieved here. It gives you the chance to listen to the message when you want to, whilst also encouraging you to just go with the flow of the music and enjoy yourself to the max.
Oh, and if you are wondering how it is that these musicians work so well together, I have to tell you that this is a one-man band. I don’t know what kind of name or person Chalky is, but I like his sense of humour. And I hereby can claim what I started out with, he has some strange brainwaves coming out of him if “Operation Party Destroy” is how he thinks and acts. But honestly, I think it is great, as this makes NUCLEARSAURUS REX into the very pleasant band that I am listening to right now. I hope that he doesn’t change, whether he finds a record label or not. If he can keep this going, I can see the band growing with age. One thing he will need then is a live band that matches his weirdness and abilities. If he succeeds in that, I will gladly go and watch NUCLEARSAURUS REX play live. Until then I will just enjoy myself with “Operation Party Destroy”.
