Craaft - Second Honeymoon album cover

"Second Honeymoon" was originally released in 1988, and has recently been reissued in order to give CRAAFT fans another chance to hear it, especially since it's been remastered as well. Of course, there's also the added bonus of three never heard before bonus tracks to enjoy.

If you're going to listen to this all in one sitting, it certainly requires a little bit of dedication. At 77 minutes all told, it's definitely one of the longest albums I've listened to. But if I'm honest, it's nothing special. Don't get me wrong, it's a good album, and I enjoyed listening to it - the 80s sound was a nice change from a lot of the stuff I've been listening to recently - but in terms of it being an AOR type album, it doesn't really do anything exceptional compared to other albums in this genre. You can definitely tell that "Second Honeymoon" has been remastered - it's a lot crisper and clearer than anything you'd expect from that era, and I think it does the album a lot of good. Thankfully, for an album of this length, there is quite a bit of variety with a couple of ballads mixed in with your usual Hard Rock material.

So for people who haven't heard this before, and want to check it out, I'll move on to the more technical aspects. Luley is an excellent singer; at times his voice even reminded me of the late great Ronnie James Dio. And the fact that he contributes to the guitar and bass playing along with Schleicher shows that he is a man of many talents. Indeed, the fretwork is pretty awesome, with some really cool solos. Keil's keyboarding talents really bring the 80's feeling to the album, without completely dominating the music. Of course we can't forget Schneider's awesome drumming - there's no doubt that they're all brilliant musicians. I mentioned the variety in this album before, and whilst the songs do have differing intros, solos, lyrics etc - I couldn't help but feel that I'd heard it all before, the demo tracks were very similar to the rest of the album as well. So whilst it's certainly a very good album, it wouldn't grab my attention compared to other albums in the genre.

Overall, I think it's a good re-master and reissue of a worthy album, and fans of CRAAFT should give it a try, at least for the previously unheard material. I think it might win a few new fans, especially if they're new to the genre, as it's a good album - nothing more, nothing less.
