Shine
Mystery Moon
Kaiserslautern based guitarist and songwriter Markus Pfeffer (Lazurus Dream & Atlantis Drive) actually only wanted to record a single song with Swedish singer Rob Lundgren (Mentalist) for his all-star project Barnabas Sky. But then everything turned out quite differently. After the two of them met in person at a Mentalist gig and immediately hit it off, it was clear that it couldn't just be one song - a whole album was needed. The first song the creative duo wrote together, "The Mystery", is therefore also the first video track as well as the deciding factor for the band name.
The intro to the start of this album is very synth based very calming ,but then it steps up a gear “Now's The Time” has some edgy, groovy guitar riffs, an anthemic, soaring chorus with some superb harmonies. ”Shine” has a more faster tempo a great melody with great rhythm. ”The Hidden Magic” has some great guitar hooks, with the keys the mix is blended to give that perfect balance with some oriental vibes. ”Moment Of Life” the power ballad of the album which is powerful, with the vocal harmonies given the depth the vocals from Rob Lungren are powerful delivered with the right texture. ”Mindset (Road I'm On)” & “Natures Way” are a pleasant surprise ,heavy melodies & rhythm ,with the flute touches sounds gorgeous, really different which I like. ”Sudden Rupture” is a change of direction giving a classic metal feel heavy, with grit both musically and vocally, definitely a album highlight for me. ”Stars A Million Miles Away” is a track over 8 minutes long is a journey and memory into when Rob Lungren as a youth rode his bike across a field at night and experienced the universe in its infinity for the first time. ”Moment Of Life (Piano Version)” brings the album to a close stripped back with gospel like harmonies, with powerful, endearing fantastic vocals from Rob Lungren a goosebumps moment for me a wonderful version.
I'm a huge Melodic Rock fan, for me this was a change from the smooth, polished punchy style I'm accustomed to. ”Shine” has a bit more edge, heavier and a bit more sophistication about it more depth. On first listen of “Shine” I couldn't get into it, but after a couple of listens it did grow on me. A really good Melodic Rock album like the album title it shines!. Another one for the collection, another solid release on the Pride & Joy label.
