God Of Pain
Deimos' Dawn
Nice of the band DEIMO’S DAWN to put a MORGOTH cover on the EP, especially as grunter Marc Grewe used to be the frontman of that band. As far as the info tells me, he also disabuses the microphone with ASINHELL and INSIDIOUS DISEASE. And now he has added the Thrash Metal ensemble DEIMO’S DAWN to that list. Well, he actually has been part of this one since 2019, whilst the band itself was started in 2017. It still took them four years to produce the debut album “Anthem Of The Lost” from last year. I can say that I haven’t had the pleasure of having heard that one. The band felt it was time to come with an EP, with they named “God Of Pain”. It was let loose on the world on October 25 2024 and contains five songs that clock just under 17 minutes of pure Thrash Metal.
Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, the last song is a cover, so there are four contributions by DEIMO’S DAWN themselves. And they do what it says on the tin. They Thrash, they make your head bang, they give as good as it gets. And in the Thrashing side of it all I am glad of having the opportunity of reviewing this EP. When it comes to the musicians, they are very capable of carrying a good tune. The same goes for the vocals, the way Marc Grewe delivers them is taking the influences into the Metal Hardcore/Crossover area of our music more than anywhere else.
The production also is of a very high quality. You can hear everything that is being played, without anything becoming an undistinguishable mess. But when it comes to the songs themselves, I have to say that they are not very special at all. It is good Thrash, but unfortunately not very adventurous or awe-inspiring. Not bad, but also not extraordinary. I have to say that to me they sound just above average, making “God Of Pain” a title that is way too high for the feeling I get. I hear no God, and certainly don’t feel pain. But I don’t feel joy either. I don’t know if DEIMO’S DAWN has more to offer. If they have, I would like to hear it, because this has left me a little unsatisfied. And as a Thrash Metal afficionado it always pains me to have to put that to paper or tell.
