A Circus
A Circus
A Circus is led by Luca Federici which draws influence and inspiration from legendary & iconic bands such as Rainbow, Queen and Deep Purple. The project features members of different nationalities Ronnie Romero (Rainbow and Lords Of Black),Luca Federici ,Gian Marco Verdone. Alfredo Federici and Shane Gaalaas (Yngwie Malmsteen and Michael Schenker). The album was recorded at Crumb West California, Ex Cantine Italy and VDV Studio Romania. The album was mastered by Peter Hewitt-Dutton at Bakery Mastering in California. The artwork for the album was created by the legendary Hugh Syme (Whitesnake,Rush).
“Out Of The Hat” an acoustic musical intro which is mediocre which leads into “Burn The Witch” which is a 70's classic rock the melody is catchy with the Hammond organ very high up in the mix, the guitar solo is accompanied by a deep base getting the album off to a promising start very much Deep Purple and Rainbow influenced. The classic rock and influenced melodies continue with “A Snow Covered Road” solid guitar riffs, a bluesy vocal from Ronnie Romero with some great rhythm & melody. ”Two Ghosts” brings down the momentum with a mellow acoustic folk rock style number , the orchestral and synth touches make the track dramatic with some great controlled vocals. But then we come to ”Rainbow Tears” which has some Proggy elements definitely Rainbow soundalike, I feel the album loses its momentum, ”The Sleeper” another ballad has a nice piano intro but drags on a bit too much with orchestral touches but they lack the punch and impact give the song that epic appeal ,the guitar solo is great at the end ,but a mediocre track at best. ”Judas” a mid tempo track again the influences of Deep Purple and Rainbow here ,but again it just comes and go leaving with me thinking Is that it. ”Swing Little Girl” finishes the album in a bizarre way an orchestral piece, which is the odd track on the album, almost could imagine it in a film or musical.
After the initial intro when the album started I thought A Circus had promise but after the few tracks ,the album changed .the tracks were just mediocre there was nothing special about them that stood out, considering the line up in the band I was left feeling left disappointed. However with the influences of A Circus's album it may appeal to fans of classic rock particularly fans of Deep Purple & Rainbow.
