From Madrid, Spain we have the band STRANGERS that is releasing what seems to be their first work since 2019. The band had 3 albums in their history but got into a hiatus for some years. Now the gang is back with a new singer Celia Barloz and the name of the EP is Whispers. The sound seems to be a melodic almost operatic kind of Metal like in NIGHTWISH or LACUNA COIL. The first track is “With You” and you can see that all the ingredients are there, but are missing some glue. The song is not very inspiring and the voice melody is not very catchy. I understand how hard it is to write a good melody and I can appreciate the effort.
The second one “Flames” is much better. A basic hard rock riff and a more memorable singing melody and some double bass drum expertise. The production and overall musicianship is good but the compositions, despite being ok, does not offer anything new, falling in the average band category. The tracks keep getting better however. The third track “Echoes” is the best of the EP so far. The singer has a good voice but is more pop oriented than Hard Rock. It's all in tune and the voice is nice, but it sounds like Elsa from Frozen singing Hard Rock. We end our short journey with “Stronger Than Before” , which is another good track if your proposal is a soft Rock with Olivia Newton John kind of vocals with some good high notes in the end. Listening to this band I remember artists like BONNIE TYLER, HEART and VIXEN. All tunes have good guitar solos and the overall output is quite pop rock oriented which is fine as great music was created in this genre. However, the band needs a little more time working in their compositions to create a greater impact to my ears.
