Enchantress

The Pale Horses

Good Stoner Metal.
December 9, 2024

Here is another new band from Canada that is releasing their first work to the world. The band is THE PALE HORSES and they are releasing a 4 track EP called Enchantress…and this is pretty much what I could gather from this band since they don't have the band member’s name, and what they do, not even on their own website, let alone on the net. Gentleman, first lesson in a musician’s career. Your name has to be somewhere! It can be David Coverdale or Clown, but your audience deserves to know (and also should be interested!) in the name of the band members and what they do and not only the producer's name. All this as an excuse for me to apologize to the reader for the band members missing names.

After this short rant, let's get to the meat of the bone with the first track “Never Know” that also has a video on the tubes. Fuzz pedal attack to the max is what I am hearing. A dense mood that reminds me of Stoner Heavy Rock on acid. I can also hear some WOLFMOTHER vibes on the riff. We follow with the EP title song “Enchantress” that is more energetic and the use of fuzz distortion gets to the limit here. Who doesn’t like some crunchy fuzz? The vocals are tamed and do not expect vocal histrionics. Is that kind of stoner clean vocal that despite being in tune, there is not much effort to sing. It's just the vibe thing. We reach “Morning Star” that starts with a recording of a jail welcoming speech before punching you in the face with a guitar riff heavy as fuck.

For me the best of the EP so far. Creative riff and song structure and I could even hear some cool bass lines amongst so much fuzz. We finish our small journey with “Bad Love” that has another cool riff and tempo. Off course it comes to mind BLACK SABBATH as well in the riffs as I consider this band the fathers of everything metal. I could even hear OZZY singing some tracks. This last track has a nice riff change in the end that turns it also into a highlight of this short release. I like what I heard and it has good potential. I would just rip the vocals a little more and give the band members some names.
