Crimson Cult - Tales of Doom album cover

CRIMSON CULT seemed to have founded their music on the basis of experience from their past endeavors and as well as any other band, on their past passions in Metal and Rock. When I went over their new album "Tales Of Doom", released by Pure Legend Records, I notice the dark nature that kept on showing its figure pretty often. I sensed also that there had been a type of musical storytelling throughout the tracks while some of it actually meant something that was meant to be directed to every listener to live and learn. I assume that you can call it an escape back to the grim reality other than from reality.

"Tales Of Doom" was produced by the band's lead guitarist, Gunter Maier, which also presented his profound ability both as a guitarist and as a keyboardist. As a producer, Maier had taken under account that the overall production would suit the likes of an old school Metal release. However, I would have added just a little more depth, or a small dosage of bass. Secondly, the vocals should have been fronted before the guitars. Other than those couple of shortcomings, I think that the sound and the general feel of the atmosphere driven from it went well with the process of the tracklist.

What I liked about CRIMSON CULT is the notion that they weren't afraid to take chances. What was overall sounded like influenced music by JUDAS PRIEST, DIO and IRON MAIDEN, seemed to have developed into a something quite astonishing and out of the ordinary. Though not trying to dwell on it that much, CRIMSON CULT made a few adjustments to in the riffing, arrangements of passages and a few varied time signatures in order to keep it fresh. That same freshness kept me transfixed most of the way. Sure that they also showed the classic side as they should, but a little progression and articulation won't hurt anyone right?

If have a thing for Classic Metal music, "Tales Of Doom" will serve you well. Tracks in the vein of "Institution Christ", "The Long Way Home", "On The Edge", "State Of Fear" and "Behind The Curtain" are excellent examples of well written Metal. There is a lot of passion in this album and that is why it's a must.
