GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS, are a band from Stockholm, Sweden originally formed in 1983. After various line up changes and a number of years apart, having disbanded from 1991-2006, they came back with a release in 2023 and now their follow up, “Rock 'N’ Roll Church.” The band is straight forward bluesy rock n roll, with a touch of sleaze glam rock. They have a sound much like The Rolling Stones meets AC/DC. The album is filled with catchy hooks and riffs, and solid rhythms. The songs are short and catchy, with most of them under three minutes. With a name like GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS, you know they don’t take themselves seriously. They are just a fun loving hard rock band, and that’s just how it should be.

“Rock 'N’ Roll Church” starts off with the title track. I’m not sure if they are trying to put down religion with this song, as there are a couple of opposing lines. To me though, it comes across as a fun loving, tongue in cheek type of song comparing rock n roll to religion. “The Long Drink” is another fun loving song with a good fast groove and gritty guitars. “Hometown” has a bit of country to it. It is more like a feelgood strum along, sing along type song. The song has a kind of John Mellencamp feel or groove to it. The guitars are clean or just a slight distortion to them. There’s a little grit on the lead guitars over a clean rhythm. “Hell’s Kitchen” starts with a heavy groove that’s a little on the slow side. Then it picks up the pace a bit and really grooves by the chorus. The last track is “I’m sorry.” It starts with a quick little bluesy riff, then jumps right into a hard driving rhythm. While this is a typical song about making amends and trying to make up with his girl, really they have nothing to be sorry for.

Blasting out high energy classic rock n roll, GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS prove that rock isn’t dead. The guitars groove with just the right amount of overdrive and distortion. The rhythms are solid grooves that get you toe tapping and head banging. The vocals are not exciting, but work well for the music. Ollie sings with just a little rasp in his voice. Fans of AC/DC will love this album. As the old guard and old bands get old, retire, or die off, it will be time for new talent and new blood to step up and take charge. GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS could easily do so.
