Dim Mak - The Emergence of Reptilian Altars album cover

The ability to cause Death via the usage of martial arts follows the Chinese term of DIM MAK, the Death touch. When a Technical Death Metal band that consists of four members that are fans of the whole concept of martial arts, aside from the damage it could make to a person before sending to kingdom come, it is bound that their name would derive from their utmost admiration. Well, DIM MAK it is and it holds members of some of the most infamous extreme bands in the US like HATE ETERNAL, RIPPING CORPSE, GORGUTS and ORIGIN.

Recently I had the chance to review the reissue of the debut album of ARSIS, that back in 2004 released their debut via Willowtip Records that later on clinched a deal with Nuclear Blast Records, which practically amazed me. Technical Death Metal, along with melodies of Heavy Metal, sounded so great with its enrichments. My appreciation towards the latest DIM MAK, "The Emergence of Reptilian Altars", and their second album through Willowtip Records and for now I don't think that they are going anywhere else, is equal to the old ARSIS album. Well, if you didn't have the chance on reaching that review, don't worry I will let you know why I liked this here album.

In comparison to what I was evident on the ARSIS album of "Celebration Of Guilt", "The Emergence of Reptilian Altars"turned out to be a rather more of a technical stand, nonetheless, it didn't mess up the sinuous nature of the tracks and also didn't lose the gruesome and morbid concepts of what every song had to share. The articulate aggressive rhythms and uncultivated lead guitar showcases of Shaune Kelleyblew me away by their far reaching grip, interesting formations and arrangements. This guy is genius and alongside a high profile rhythm section of Scot Hornickand John Longstreth, they are a powerful unit that would set the record straight for technical extreme Metal.

As for other aspects of the album that imprisoned my ears where the themes on "The Emergence of Reptilian Altars". Similar to the older titles of Death Metal such as "Altars Of Madness" by MORBID ANGEL, "Scream Bloody Gore" by DEATH and "Cross Of Styx" by SINISTER among others, DIM MAK's songs took me into back when the old school extreme Metal focuses on the foundations of Metal while regarding their lyrics of the occult and other blasphemous features. When the lyrics were barked from the mouth of Joey Capizzi, it was an awesome feel even though without a shred of melody. However, I got used to it from past experiences with such bands.

"The Emergence of Reptilian Altars" introduced me to swell tracks such as "Kutulu"(not the call of METALLICA), "Between Immensity and Eternity", "Fully Disassembled", "The Sounds of Carnage" and the great instrumental play of "Through the Rivers of Pestilence". The sonic Straightforwardness is being shown in one of its better moments when the ferocity of Death Metal is concerned. Check this album out.
