Irrévérence

Diablation

Overall, this was an excellent Black Metal album that was raw, but also polished, furthering the notion that you the genre can be just as glossy as other Metal genres but still retain a hardened, contentious edge. They are excellent musicians, and have filled in the gaps with backing elements nicely.

After experiencing a journey into the depths of despair, DIABLATION imagines the future of a newly elected people saved from the emerging apocalypse. They depict this future in great detail in their new transcendent opus. From Bandcamp, “The final work of the group features the last words of their martyr singer Arkames, who is now doomed to silence. The work symbolizes irreverence, counter-revolution against modernism and liberalism, and the desire for a restoration of His Reign. The closing words of the work are "Oh God, I rely on you, that we can one day become King again." May this sentiment guide us until our last breath.”

The album has seven songs, and “144000” is first, and it’s a brief introduction to the album. The mood is somber, with haunting, angelic vocals in the background. The transition to the next song is quite stark, and “Eternel” spews forth blood and vomit with an aggressive sound fueled by thick guitars and vocal screams. There are also supporting symphonic elements in the background, and it sounds like the beginnings of a blood ritual. “Purification” is slower, more grinding, and more powerful, and harrowing tones abound. Again, the backing symphonic elements help to thicken up the sound, but they don’t take over.

“Par La Haine” has a marching quality to it, like an army of the dead who has gathered under orders and is marching out of Hell to conquer the world. There are some harmonies, especially in the guitars, so that the aggression is tempered a bit. “Chrysanthemes au Nouveau Monde” has some nifty meter shifts in the opening, and it is followed by another frightening sound that is also tinged with melodies. Some deeper elements also escape from the pit. “Ad Universum” is so thick that it almost consumes the listener with branches from the foul beast that can reach you even if you make a run for it. The melodic notes have a tone of sadness to them however. “Le Dernier Roi” closes the album, and it’s one final pedal-to-the-metal song that scorches you and leaves ashes in its wake.

Overall, this was an excellent Black Metal album that was raw, but also polished, furthering the notion that you the genre can be just as glossy as other Metal genres but still retain a hardened, contentious edge. They are excellent musicians, and have filled in the gaps with backing elements nicely.
